Dear families,

The Fall Linked-in Learning Series began last week. Through preaching, Adult Ed teaching and Small Groups, we are doing a deep dive into the book of Exodus and remembering the events that are formative to our faith. These stories will also be told during the Time with Children each week in worship as a way to reinforce the theme. Our hope is this overlap creates some car-conversations or whole-family chats. Another way for your family to participate is to add these stories to your bedtime reading list. Growing in God's Love (age 2 and up) and The Children's Bible in 365 Stories (age 8 and up) are wonderful family resources. Exodus contains some of most compelling but also most complicated stories in our tradition. One key to talking about sophisticated Bible stories with children is to never teach anything that needs to later be "un-taught." Focus on the parts of the story that can be told simply and truly. Emphasize God's care for God's people at all times, and don't be afraid of not having all the answers. It's better to acknowledge complexity rather than assert a shallow platitude. After all, we are all practice-ers, not perfect-ers, of faith.
