Meet Alana Ward,
College of Science Business Manager
|
|
|
Alana Ward is the new Business Manager for the College of Science. She comes to the College of Science from the College of Agriculture. She enjoys working on campus; "the atmosphere here is great". Her top priorities are being organized and efficient.
Alana says she loves to read and "do pretty much anything that will get me outdoors."
Her responsibilities include:

Mary-Ann Muffoletto Recognized as USU Employee of the Month
|
|
Our College of Science Public Relations Specialist, Mary-Ann Muffoletto, was recently recognized as the Utah State University Employee of the Month for her outstanding service, especially for her efforts to promote and organize Science Unwrapped events during the past 11 years. Mary-Ann is enthusiastic about highlighting student and faculty research/accomplishments, and we are grateful to work with her. If you are interested in nominating employees, visit the

Junior Faculty International Travel Award Application Open
|
|
The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost is pleased to announce the request for submissions for the Gardner Junior Faculty Travel Fellowship Award for international travel.
Available award money will allow a maximum of four awards of up to $2,000 each.

For the past 16 years, the Office of Research has hosted a series of events every April to showcase the exceptional research and researchers at USU.The 2020 celebration will be held April 6 – 10. in the Merrill-Cazier Library.
On Wednesday, April 8, the Student Research Symposium (SRS) will give students opportunities to present their work with
short talks, posters, visual arts exhibitions, and performances.
The SRS is Utah State University’s largest showcase of student research celebrates student research and improves each student’s ability to communicate their research. The most highly rated presenters in each broad disciplinary category are recognized at the student awards ceremony on Friday, April 10.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities
|
|
The Peak Summer Research Fellowship:
This research fellowship is designed to support students and faculty engaged in research. Undergraduate students are invited to submit a joint application with their faculty mentors. The deadline for application has been extended.
Completed proposals for the new Peak Summer Research Fellowship are due Sunday, March 15. Learn more at

College of Science Minigrants:
The college is awarding ten minigrants to undergraduate researchers. The award period will be for one semester: Summer 2020, Fall 2020, or Spring 2021. Awardees will receive a College of Science stipend of $750 plus department-matched funds of $250 for a total of $1000.
The application requires a faculty research mentor at Utah State University and a letter of support.
Preference will be given to applicants who are pursuing their first research experience.

"Cheese: The Immortalization of Milk"
|
|
Milk’s the first food all mammals (including humans) taste. After humans domesticated livestock, milk became a favored food for adults. Alas, milk spoils easily, but ingenious humans converted milk to cheese, which lasts much longer and tastes delicious.
USU dairy microbiologist Jeff Broadbent explains the science, and art, of making Cache Valley’s favorite food at Science Unwrapped Friday, March 20, with “Cheese: The Immortalization of Milk” at 7 p.m. in ESLC 130. All are welcome and admission is free.

Amy Rosenzweig, Weinberg Family Distinguished Professor of Life Sciences at Northwestern University, is featured speaker for the 2020 R. Gaurth Hansen Seminar Series lecture Wednesday, April 1. She presents “Biological Methane Oxidation” at 4 p.m. in Old Main, Room 115. Dr. The annual lecture series, open to all, honors the memory of renowned USU biochemist and administrator R.
