Next Generation Science Standards
In 2019, DFSME and LabWare teamed up to help support and fund Next Generation Science Standards administrator training. Administrators went through an extensive training workshop with the Next Generation Science Exemplar System (NGSX). As facilitators in all Delaware school districts, they will help teachers grow into understanding 3-dimensional learning, in particular, how scientific and engineering practices play a critical role in helping students build and revise their scientific ideas over time.
Furthering this effort, the Delaware Department of Education and the Delaware Teachers of Science with support from a DFSME Seed Grant, worked in collaboration to hold a summer institute for teachers on, “How to Be A Next Gen Teacher." Twenty-eight elementary, middle and high school science teachers from 13 different school districts/charters attended the training. Teachers
learned about developed models, engaged in evidence-based argumentation, and explored classroom video cases with other science educators as part of the NGSX learning community.
