Mass for the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
There are still a few reservations available for the September 26th, in-person Mass. The sign-up will remain open until Thursday at noon. Mass will be live streamed on our Facebook page
at 5pm on Saturday, September 26th

A recorded version will be available on Sunday,
or you can watch the Facebook version, it just won't be truly live. :)

Monday through Wednesday each week, we will be taking reservations for our in-person Vigil Mass that weekend. Go to www.stjohnsea.org and click on the Mass Reservations button for more information.

Funeral Mass for Adoracion (Doris) Jumaquio will be held on Thursday the 24th of September, at 11:30am.The mass can accommodate immediate family only.
Please pray for the Jumaquio family. The Mass will be live-streamed on our Facebook page.

First Holy Communion Masses Scheduled!
The First Holy Communion Masses that were missed in May because of COVID-19 will be celebrated on Sundays at 10:30am the next three weeks.
These Masses are closed to the public,
but can be watched via Facebook live-stream.
Sunday September 27th at 10:30 am.
Sunday, October 4th at 10:30am.
Sunday, October 11th at 10:30am.

Liturgy Volunteers Needed
During these unprecedented times, many of our fellow parishioners who have faithfully assisted in the liturgy have been sidelined because they, or someone in their household, happen to be in a high-risk category.
As a result, we are desperately shorthanded and need your help. We need volunteers in every ministry including Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, Sacristans and Lectors. No previous experience is required and training
is provided. If you've ever thought about volunteering in one of these ministries, there's never been a better time!
Please email Joe Sullivan, Liturgy Committee Chair ( [email protected]) if you have any questions, want to learn more about a specific ministry or are ready to step up and serve.

Please Make a Lasagna for the Men at St. Martin de Porres THIS SUNDAY, the 27th!
St. John parish is going to provide a lasagna dinner for the 50 men at St. Martin de Porres again on Sunday the 27th. We need 10 people to make lasagna, 5 people to provide a veggie tray, and 5 people to donate a dozen rolls. Please email Kristin Kent at [email protected] to let her know what you can provide.
Bring your item to the flagpole in front of St. John school at 3:00 pm THIS SUNDAY the 27th. We will drive the food downtown to the shelter.

Blessing of the Backpacks Food Drive is a HUGE SUCCESS!
THANK YOU does not begin to convey the gratitude for all the food that was collected. The donations dropped off last Friday from the parish and the school to benefit the Broadview-Thomson K-8 Food Program just kept coming and coming, and coming!
Samantha Woogerd, the BTK-8 Food Program Coordinator, said this was easily more than double of what they have ever received from St. John during this food drive-2 SUV's were filled to the brim and one more had overflow. Because there is such great need for help at this time, the food was put out for people to pick up this week.
Thank you to the kids who came to Mass on Saturday night, and those who came virtually, to get their backpacks blessed by Father. It was a beautiful Mass!

Emergency Collection for Disaster Relief
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has asked that we take up an emergency collection to assist the victims of Hurricane Laura, the California wildfires, and other natural disasters. Your gift will support the humanitarian efforts of Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted areas. St John's Blessing of the Animals on St Francis of Assisi Feast Day
The Saint Francis of Assisi ministry and the St John Girl Scout Troop #44091 are pleased to announce the Blessing of the Animals, held on the Feast of St Francis, Sunday, October 4 at 12:30 pm in the St John school yard. Bring your pets to be blessed by Father Crispin near the statue of Mary. All humans must be masked and be prepared to socially distance from others for everyone's safety. All pets need to be well behaved and be either leashed or carried in a pet carrier. Also at the event, the Girl Scouts will be collecting donations for the Seattle Humane Society.

St John Book Club
For our next meeting we will be reading Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh.
The most nostalgic and reflective of Evelyn Waugh's novels, Brideshead Revisited looks back to the golden age before the Second World War. It tells the story of Charles Ryder's infatuation with the Marchmains and the rapidly-disappearing world of privilege they inhabit. Enchanted first by Sebastian at Oxford, then by his doomed Catholic family, in particular his remote sister, Julia, Charles comes finally to recognize only his spiritual and social distance from them. A Time to Rest
We are in the midst of the Season of Creation, where Christians all over the world celebrate creation, God's gift to us all.
This week I'd like to share another section of Pope Francis' Season of Creation message:
In his wisdom, God set aside the Sabbath so that the land and its inhabitants could rest and be renewed. These days, however, our way of life is pushing the planet beyond its limits. Our constant demand for growth and an endless cycle of production and consumption are exhausting the natural world. Forests are leached, topsoil erodes, fields fail, deserts advance, seas acidify and storms intensify. Creation is groaning!
