Where has the summer gone?
The days are getting shorter and cooler, but the lovely colors of fall are right around the corner. School is beginning soon, and the future seems brighter! Along with school, there are some wonderful updates around town!
There are new signs directing visitors (and new locals) where services are and have already heard some positive comments about them! Many thanks to the District for putting those up!
"We are open!” campaign is moving forward and you may have seen our new signs to draw in locals and travelers to stop in our wonderful town and check out all we have to offer! Watch Facebook, follow #mystreetmyneighbour, and check our website to see how you can win a $20 gift certificate! Funding for the “We are open” campaign was provided from the Nechako-Kitimaat Development Fund. See their website and the good work they support in the region at www.nkdf.org.
#mystreetmyneighbour is our ongoing project to inform everyone about the services/products you offer! Would you like to get involved? Send me a quick note if you would like us to create a #mystreetmyneighbour video for you!
And don't forget about #shoplocalsunday - if you would like to open for one Sunday a month, by appointment or every Sunday, let us know. We will include your business in our #shoplocalsunday link on our website.
Please contact me if you ever have any questions or suggestions.

We are participating in a regional conversation about commercial cardboard recycling and the issues, costs and logistics related to removing cardboard from commercial operations.
To help us add to the conversation and provide a Vanderhoof voice, we would love to hear from our members about your experiences/challenges/successes with cardboard removal and recycling.
We will share your input with the regional group to help create a regional or more local response to commercial cardboard recycling. Please contact Lesley by email or phone.

The #CanadaUnited campaign is a nationwide small and local business campaign encouraging Canadians to buy local.
Royal Bank of Canada, ‘Corporate Canada’, Business Associations and Major Media Partners have teamed up to start a movement, Canada United™, where everyday Canadians and large businesses come together in support of small and local businesses. The movement will start with a #CanadaUnited campaign where Canadians are asked to complete ‘micro-actions’ (likes, views, etc.) in support of small and local businesses on social media. In short, Canada United encourages action from everyday Canadians and Corporate Canada and kickstarts the recovery of local economies and small businesses.
Applications for the Canada United Small Business Relief Fund will be accepted starting on August 31, 2020 at 1:00 pm EDT.

Canadian Chamber Welcomes Federal Funding To Support Safe, Full-Time Return To School Policies
We welcomed Wednesday’s announcement by the Government of Canada to provide more than $2 billion in funding to help provinces and territories reopen their schools safely.
For working mothers everywhere whose children will be returning to the classroom as of next week, the funding provides assurance that sending their children back to school is the right decision. This funding is critical to helping women fully participate in the workforce, and especially so amid the economic recovery.
Our Council for Women’s Advocacy (CWA) issued a statement last week on the five things the federal government can do right now to support women and foster economic growth. The first of these is contained in yesterday’s announcement: a call to work with provinces and territories in their respective efforts to ensure there is safe full-time return to school policies for September 2020 that take into account international experiences, learnings and best practices to date.

During this time of business uncertainty, we understand that finances are tight. That is why the Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce is offering our renewing and new members the option to pay your membership fees over three months. Call to talk with Lesley on how we can support your business through this time.
And a reminder that our membership runs on a 12 month basis. For example, if you join in May 2020 your membership is good to May 2021. We feel that this method supports our members best so that everyone gets the most out of their membership.
