Dear BMHS Family and Friends,
It's hard to believe that we have already completed a quarter of the school year! I want to thank our students, families, and community for an excellent first term, and I expect that the remaining terms will go just as well.
The end of the term is a busy time for students and teachers. Students are diligently completing projects, working on assignments, and finishing tests. Teachers are diligently working to ensure students are successfully completing their course requirements. Parents are always encouraged to be checking Skyward to monitor grades, academic progress, and student attendance. We want all of our students to end term 1 strong so they can stay on track for graduation. This is especially important for our Freshman students because the end of term 1 is typically our Freshman's first opportunity to earn credits.
BMHS is committed to ensuring a positive learning environment for all. This commitment comes with a focus on learning, consistent attendance, and respectful behavior. Consistency in these three areas will allow our students the opportunity to develop the positive habits that will make them successful young adults. While we recognize that students in high school should be able to be in charge of their own success, parents/guardians can have a great impact in setting the stage. Here are a few ideas on how you can help support your children:
Learning:
Let your child know you think school is important. Talk to them about what they're learning.
Encourage persistence:
Children learn persistence when they are successful at a challenging task. Let them know that not everything comes easy. This will help them gain confidence and successfully negotiate difficult situations when they are older.
Talk to them about their future:
School success is one of the keys to a happy and fulfilling future. Talk with them about their dreams/goals and make the connection to how school fits within this vision.
Attendance:
Encourage your child to get enough sleep to ensure that he/she is able to get up in the morning. Leave home with plenty of time to get to school. Try to schedule appointments before or after school hours.
Finally, encourage your child to develop a great work ethic. A good work ethic will help develop personal pride and ensure that your student feels in control. Hard work pays off!
Our goal at BMHS is to ensure that all students are college and career ready when they leave our school. To assist with students' future goals, our counselors will be working closely with our senior students throughout the year to discuss the transition to post high school. The topics include: application submissions, transcript submission, ACT score submission, letters of recommendations, and scholarships. Please know the counselors are always available to help answer questions and parents are encouraged to reach out for any assistance.
We are looking forward to continuing the great work taking place throughout the remainder of the school year and we want to thank you for being such a great partner with the schools.
Kind Regards,
Emily Pelz, Principal
