North Iowa Strong: COVID-19 Update TODAY at 11AM |

North Iowa COVID cases and exposures to the virus continue to climb at alarming rates. Join us at 11AM today (Tuesday, November 17) as representatives from CG Public Health and IowaWORKS offer guidance and help answer questions to businesses dealing with staffing concerns and other issues due to the pandemic.
The "North Iowa Strong: COVID-19 Business Update" webinar will address questions such as:
- What is considered a close contact?
- Who should be tested, and when?
- What are the latest rules regarding leave of absence and unemployment?

Mercy Asks Businesses to Require Masks |
|
Last week, MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center President & CEO Rod Schlader made an announcement to North Iowa businesses in response to the recent surge in COVID-19 numbers in Cerro Gordo county.
"Please require employees and customers to wear a mask at your place of business to help reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in our community. By requiring masks at your place of business, you will show unity with your local health care workers and your commitment to slowing the spread of COVID-19."
To help support you, please use the Mask Up sign to display in your store front. Also, please share Mercy's recent Facebook post to your business page and personal page to help raise awareness.

Governor's Enhanced Public Health Measures |
|
Last night, Gov. Reynolds signed a new Public Health Disaster proclamation that imposes a number of additional public health measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, effective until December 10.
- Masks are required when people are in an indoor public space, and unable to social distance for 15 minutes or longer.
- Indoor social, community, business and leisure gatherings or events are limited to 15 people. Outdoor gatherings are limited to 30. This does not include normal daily gatherings in the workplace.
- With the exception of high school, collegiate and professional sports, all organized youth and adult sports activities of any size are suspended. Spectators at high school sports are limited to 2 per student and are required to wear a mask.
- Restaurants, bars, bowling alleys, arcades, pool halls, bingo halls, and indoor playgrounds are required to close at 10PM and cannot host private gatherings of more than 15 people.
- Masks must be worn by staff and customers must wear masks when they are not seated at their table to eat or drink.
- Group fitness activities are prohibited in fitness centers, health clubs, health spas, and gyms.
- Hospital inpatient elective procedures are reduced by 50%.

Online Breaking Glass Leadership Series this Thursday |

November's session of Breaking Glass will be held at 8AM this Thursday, November 19 via Zoom.
Mason City native Sarah Stanton Kurz will talk about starting her own business and working with clients in male-dominated industries. Her business philosophy is "Do not ASK for a seat at the table, pull out a chair and sit down."
The Breaking Glass Leadership Series offers a unique learning experience to help women stretch their leadership potential, drive their careers with vision and purpose, and make a greater impact within their organizations.

At this time, the Commerce Center remains closed to all outside meetings and guests. This includes members with reservations for this week; we will re-evaluate on a weekly basis. If you have any questions about an upcoming event or program, please contact the Chamber (641.423.5724) and we will direct you to the appropriate person for answers.
Although our building is temporarily closed to events, we are staffing the building with a skeleton crew and trading off working remotely. Each of us is available by phone or email.
