John Lowry, Assistant Secretary for Veterans’ Employment & Training Services with the U.S. DOL, discussed the link between military service, veterans, & post service careers in relation to workforce preparedness.

7/28/2020 - The Kill Chain – Understand, Decide, Act: How America Must Prepare for Strategic Competition with Peer and Near-Peer Rivals with Christian Brose. Brose, Chief Strategy Officer for Anduril & author of The Kill Chain discussed ideas that would increase U.S. military advantages in the future & noted the erosion of America’s traditional sources of power, amid the development of new technologies & emerging military threats by adversaries- namely China.
8/11/2020 - Security Through a Gender Lens, The Women, Peace, and Security Act and Why It Matters for National Security Dr. Kyleanne Hunter, Managing Director at Athena Leadership Project & Dr. Jeannette Hunter, Executive Director at Athena Leadership Project, offered their insight as former Marines officers & discussed the strategic value of an inclusive gender perspective in national security.

9/1/2020 - Digitizing the Business of Defense The Honorable Robert Work, Govini's Chairman & Tara Murphy Dougherty, CEO discussed the implications of decision data in national security. Secretary Work summarized the topic succinctly, stating it’s the, “human-machine collaboration backstopped by decision-quality data that is going to make the difference in warfare in the future, and if we can’t get that right…then quite frankly, we’ll lose the [Great Power] Competition.”

9/17/2020 - Data,Sense Making, and Trust: The Three Pillars at Risk and Impacts to National Security with Dr. David Bray, Director, GeoTech Center & Commission, Atlantic Council, discussed the growing threat of weaponized data, stating, “data and tech are having pervasive impacts on how we do the business of peace."

  • Secretary Ray Mabus served as the 75th United States Secretary of the Navy from 2009 to 2017, the longest tenure as leader of the Navy and Marine Corps since World War I. In addition to serving on the Boards of Dana Incorporated and Hilton Worldwide, Secretary Mabus is a senior advisor to Google Ventures and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He was the Governor of Mississippi and United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Notably, Secretary Mabus is the only Naval veteran and Harvard Law School graduate to have thrown out the first pitch at all 30 major league ballparks.
