Dear Students,
As your study abroad program departure draws closer, now more than ever it is time to Protect the Flock by making sure you stay healthy so you can travel as planned. UD’s Center for Global Programs & Services (CGPS) reminds you to take the following extra precautions now and at least two weeks before your planned departure.
-
Practice smart and healthy hygiene. Wear a mask, use your hand sanitizer, avoid crowded spaces, etc. This is especially important in light of the new COVID-19 Variant of Concern (Omicron). The CDC is working with other U.S. and global public health and industry partners to learn more about this variant and its transmissibility and severity, and continues to monitor its path. CGPS in conjunction with UD health officials will continue to monitor the situation very closely and will provide updates and guidance as new information becomes available.
-
Schedule a booster shot. CGPS has also been informed by our international risk assessment partners that some study abroad destination countries will require booster vaccines doses to maintain a valid “fully vaccinated” status abroad. The CDC has approved vaccine booster shots for all individuals over age 18 in the U.S. and therefore, if you received your last dose of the COVID vaccine over six months ago, we strongly recommend that you receive a booster dose before you travel abroad. Booster doses will likely be required to maintain a valid “Health Pass” in many countries.
Continue to check your email for messages from UD and our partners abroad with the most current health and safety guidelines for your departure from the U.S. We also encourage you to take responsibility for your personal health and that of our community by staying current with recommendations from the U.S. Department of State, the CDC, and your host country.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office any time at studyabroad@udel.edu.
