Virtual Math Tutoring and Standards Based Assessment Grading

Algebra and Geometry
The Algebra and Geometry teachers at Dr. Phillips High School would like to introduce you to Standards Based Assessment Grading.  Students have been assessed on their standards mastery each year.  However, this year we will be intentionally grading each standard to help your student know which standards they will need to work on for mastery.

Here is an overview of how it will work:
  • Teachers will provide the standards based instruction via Face-to-Face instruction or LaunchEd@Home.
  • At the end of the unit, students will take the unit assessment.
  • A score will be given for each standard testing on the assessment.  (You may have more than one grade per assessment).
  • The student will get an email with their score by each standard.
  • The student will then log into the Algebra1 or Geometry Resource Course to remediate, review, and re-assess the standards they scored low in.
  • Once they have completed the re-assessment, their teacher will receive the score to change in their gradebook.
The Algebra 1 and Geometry Resource Course will also hold the virtual tutoring.  Students will receive a monthly calendar for tutoring dates and times.

Friday, Sept. 11 marked the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York. Thousands of lives were lost on this unfortunate day, which caused the country to come together as one and unify. In remembrance of this event, DP students wore either red, white, or blue attire. Through face-to-face, the campus was filled with the color-trio, and with Launch-Ed, the webcams were showing students sporting our flag color. We will continue to remember and honor those whose lives were affected by this tragic event.

Hispanic Heritage Month takes place September 15th to October 15th. During the month, the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture and achievements in the United States are recognized and acknowledged nationally. Our culture and society has been enriched and greatly impacted by Hispanics for many years. Take a look at our Instagram for more fun information!

This month is suicide prevention month. We would like to bring light and awareness to such a dire topic. People of all ages battle with the thought of suicide. There are nearly 800,000 people who die by suicide every year. It is in our best interest to educate our panthers on this topic. Keep an eye out on WDOC and our Instagram @stucodphs for more information!
