I’ve never been a comic book kind of guy. But as a boy I did indeed read them. I did so almost exclusively on family road trip vacations across the Midwest. Batman, the Fantastic Four, and Captain America were much more interesting to me than the miles and miles of fence posts and prairie flashing by my back-seat window. I only hoped my stock of comics lasted as long as the drive.
To my surprise many of these stories and characters have found new life on the big screen in recent years. I guess part of my surprise is that interest survived beyond the silliness of the Batman series from 1966-68. It’s not necessarily so for Robin, the Boy Wonder, but the Batman has made an amazing comeback. It’s fitting, I guess, because in this genre the hero always escaped death at the hands of exotic villains and lived to fight crime in Gotham City for another day.
I mention this because therein lies a great theological truth that is worthy of recollection in this Easter season. Seriously. Think about it. The power of God and his grace always win out in the end. Despite human sinfulness which had spread so widely from the Fall to the Flood, God’s grace preserved human kind through Noah. Despite the malicious intent of Pharaoh, through his servant Moses God saved his people at the Passover. Though Jesus' friend Judas sold him out, the other apostles fled, and he was turned over to the mob… by the power of God and his grace Jesus had been crucified, raised from the dead, ascended into heaven and we have been redeemed. Pow! Good wins out over evil… again.
I may be weird for thinking about DC Comics and the Marvel Universe during the Easter season. Nonetheless, they do remind me of what St. Paul wrote so eloquently:
What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? No… (nothing) will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In times such as these, they are words to remember.

For all of you who have been able to attend Mass since we have reopened, we thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the many mandates and restrictions that govern our gatherings. We have tried to be as careful as possible in limiting our numbers, ensuring social distancing and cleaning procedures, providing masks, sanitizer and supplies, while maintaining a welcoming and inviting environment. We know it has been hard to register for Mass, to sit in unfamiliar places, to not be able to gather with friends and family before and after Mass. As more and more people are being vaccinated, many are able to join in public gatherings again. With this in mind, we are looking for ways to accommodate more people at Mass. Last week, we configured the pews to allow more seating, while still maintaining appropriate distancing, so you will see more available reservations when you go to register. Once Fr. Bill’s sabbatical is up and we have a permanent priest, we will be able to add more Masses. Again, thank you for all you have done to help during this time, especially our COVID Mass volunteers. The strength of our parish is our people, and it’s never been more evident.

Knights of Columbus - First Annual Virtual Auction
May 6, 2021 at 12:00pm Ending May 10, 2021 at 8:00pm
|
|
We are excited to announce our 1st Annual Knights of Columbus 7528 Virtual Auction to be held May 6 – May 10, 2021! Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have been unable to have any of our regular fundraising events (annual crab feed, Lenten fish fry, spaghetti dinners, etc.) and have chosen this online auction as a way to raise the much-needed funds to support our community this year.
To raise money for the community, we are asking for your support. Would you be willing to donate item(s) for our auction? Any item big or small will be greatly appreciated.
We also invite you to attend our virtual auction. You can preview the auction at the link below. You may register anytime prior to the auction start date. Please invite your family and friends to join us as well.
If you can donate any items, big or small, please email knights7528auction@gmail.com or call 253.973.2842, and we will arrange pick up of the item. We thank you for your support and generosity.

Our Flower Committee would like to say THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped place our Easter flowers and who are working to maintain the flowers. We would also like to thank Paula Amore for her time and talent creating our cut arrangements. Another “thank you” to Linda Evans who created the ribbons attached to our candles. With regular care and attention, we hope to have our flowering plants last through the Easter season … hopefully longer. Once these plants have served their best in the church, we will be rehoming them. A committee member will be placing the plants which need a new home in the South Narthex for parishioners to take home. Please leave the plants in the church, but please check the South Narthex weekly.
Again, our thanks to all the volunteers who made our Easter celebration so beautiful!
