Bat Mitzvah
Lila Simon
Hello, my name is Lila Sahar Simon. I have enjoyed the first eight years of my Jewish learning at Temple Beth Avodah. I appreciate learning new things about being Jewish, making friends at Temple, and being aware of the world around me. In my spare time I dance Jazz, Tap and Ballet, and at Oak Hill Middle School I am part of the theater stage crew. Since my Torah portion was about Abraham, Sarah, Lot and his wife helping strangers in need, I am focusing on immigrants and refugees for my Bat Mitzvah project. I am collecting gently-used clothes and toys for refugee families. I am also raising money for an X-Box for an Ethiopian Jewish-focused community center in Haifa. I am excited to continue learning at the Temple after my Bat Mitzvah.
Meet Your Committee Chairs
James Nahirny
Finance Committee
My wife, Janet, and I and our family have enjoyed being members of Temple Beth Avodah for over 10 years now. Our children, Rachel, Sophie, and Alex became b’nai mitzvah through TBA, including a wonderful bar mitzvah trip to Israel led by Rabbi Stern and joined by a great group of TBA families. Our girls are now in college and appreciate their TBA care packages. As Temple Treasurer I chair the Finance Committee, and I also sit on a number of other committees to ensure that our financial plan is integrated across all of TBA’s initiatives and programs. When I’m not at a Temple meeting, I can be found in Torah class with Rabbi Stern or at home enjoying brisket, latkes, knishes, and black-and-white cookies.
