Rebirth, Repair, then Rebuild!
Behind The Scenes Of Our Repairs:
The Breitenbush You Know and Love
Rebirth, Repair, then Rebuild! is a newsletter series where we will be walking you through the damages, sharing the triumphant repairs and the hope that remains for our rebuild of Breitenbush Hot Springs.

In this first edition, we will take you through the spaces you know and love; our beloved guest facilities.

Honoring a Piece of History
The guest cabins and Lodge were originally built in the 1920's.
Nearly 100 years later the fires have shifted the layout of our iconic healing resort.

Our Guest Facilities Now
The Meadow Pools

The pool structures, lined with smooth river rocks, have survived the fire. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the changing station, seen below. Without a doubt the Meadow Pools will remain as a cornerstone in the Breitenbush soaking experience.
The Guest Cabins

The sweet structures you called home when visiting Breitenbush are gone. All 42 of our cabins were originally built in the 1920's. One hundred years later none of the cabins remain, undoubtedly this destruction is one of our greatest losses.

Vista: The Massage House

Our beloved Vista building is gone as well. We look forward to creating a new home for our wonderful Healing Arts Team to bring you healing and relaxing massage again.

Memories from 34 Years of Visiting Breitenbush
Dear Magical Breitenbush,

Oh, how I will miss your sweet refuge in the guest cabins. I met you in September 1986 at the annual Herbalist retreat and I fell in love with you. In those days, there was only the far meadow pool, really not developed – with cinder gravel on the bottom that would stir up into the water with any movement. But the water!  Always divine, inviting, relieving, grounding – bringing me back to the earth, the land, the source.

Breitenbush, you are my renewal! Over the last 34 years, Breitenbush has been a second home. Upon arrival, that first breath is unforgettable – the mixture of the scent of the trees with the land, the quietness, the love that so many people have felt over decades. Then the descent into the cabins with the wheelbarrows or sleds.

So many memories over the years. Laughing until my sides hurt at the herbalists’ talent shows in the Lodge and music in the Lodge or down at the River Yurt – singing and drumming. Walking quietly the trails to Devil’s Creek and the Emerald Forest, and taking splendid photos. Soaking in the far meadow pool when it was only 12F and getting out to find my towel had frozen solid and was essentially unusable, and my long hair was frozen. Meeting with friends of the Breitenbush community over the years: hugging, discussing, loving during meals. And meditating each early morning in the Sanctuary: in quietness and solitude and watching the snow gently fall.

I love you Breitenbush – Thank you for all the healing, renewal, inspiration and love over the years.

My memories are precious and stored with utmost gratitude. You will also be renewed, restructured and rebuilt with caring hands and open hearts!

Thank you for your GRACE.

Love and Blessings,
Ellen (Breitenbush Guest and Community Friend)

Ode to Emerald Forest

O forest draped in old man’s beard
bracken fern and moss-robed rocks
sixteen shades of green
you glow in falling light
like secrets in a crystal ball
burbles from hidden springs
burst underfoot, wash the air
with earth’s breath
sister hoots
her spotted song
echoes your flight
toward all
that’s windborn blue
