St. Emily and St. Thomas Becket Parishes
March 4, 2020
Dear Families,

Confirmation is drawing nearer and nearer. We trust that this is an exciting time for all the candidates and all those who love and support them.

novena19The Confirmation novena, for the nine days prior to the sacrament, is a way for families, sponsors and the candidates to pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit.  The novena begins this Friday, March 6. We encourage all to join in this time of prayer.

Please remember that the Confirmation rehearsal is Tuesday, March 10 at 7:00 PM at St. Emily.

Sponsors should also be present, if that is possible. (We understand that many of you are not able to come that far for the rehearsal, so we will brief you in enough time the day of the ceremony.)

faqConfirmation FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions about Confirmation:
  • Is it a Sunday mass? Yes, we will use the readings for the day, so it will 'count' as a Sunday mass.

  • What time does it begin? The mass will begin at 2 PM.  Candidates and sponsors will need to gather in Hajdu Hall by 1:00 PM.  Bishop Bartosic wishes to speak with the candidates before the ceremony.

  • How long will it last? 2 hours is a good rule. It might be a little less - or more.  It all depends on the bishop.

  • When is the rehearsal? The rehearsal is Tuesday, March 10 at 7:00 PM in the church.

  • What about photos? A photo of your candidate being confirmed is included in the Confirmation fee.  After the mass, Bishop Bartosic will pose for photos in Hajdu Hall.

  • Is there a reception? We will have light refreshments after the mass.

  • Can we save seats? There is more than enough room in St. Emily to accommodate family and friends. The two center sections will be reserved for candidates and sponsors.  You can seat yourself where you would like.

  • Does the sponsor have to be at the rehearsal?  If the sponsor lives locally and it is feasible, we would love for the sponsor to attend the rehearsal.  However, if he or she is coming from far away, it is not necessary.

  • What should the candidates wear?
    • Girls may wear a dress or dressy pants. The dress hem should not be more than two inches above the knee.  Low cut necklines or spaghetti straps are inappropriate. We recommend lower heels, as girls can wobble and it isn't what they are hoping to do.
    • Boys should wear a dress shirt and tie.  A suit is fine, but not mandatory. They should wear dress shoes, not athletic shoes.
Of course, if you have a question not answered here,  contact Cathy Crino  and we'll be glad to help!

Those Works of Mercy don't stop

Even though you will be confirmed soon, this is no time to stop thinking of Works of Mercy.  Remember that they continue until you meet the Lord and give an accounting of your life. And, Lent might be a time to think of doing something you have not yet done on the lists of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.

You can find ideas on these lists for things to do in your everyday life.
Here are some organized group events for you to take part in:
Besides these special events,  look for other opportunities to help in your family, your school and your neighborhood . Also,  the spiritual works of mercy   are just things that might happen in the course of a day.

If you have any other questions,  please contact Cathy Crino.

Rosary
Makes a Wonderful Confirmation Gift

We have commissioned rosaries for the parish of St. Emily.  Available with either blue or brown beads, these were crafted in Italy.  The crucifix is modeled on the one that hangs in the church and St. Emily is on the center medal.

This would make a great confirmation gift for any candidate confirmed here in our church.

These are available at the St. Emily parish office for $25.00 each.
