August 15 Presbytery meeting moves online
Due to our current upside-down coronavirus world, the Presbytery meeting on Saturday, August 15 will be held
VIRTUALLY via Zoom. Event registration will be online and shared by email no later than Monday, August 3. Please note that unlike in-person meetings, where registrants are allowed to also register guests,
ALL participants
must register for themselves this meeting; this allows us to send the instructions for connecting to the meeting directly to each participant prior to the day of the meeting.

Enslow Park to present first online concert in new musical series
Beginning Saturday, Enslow Park Presbyterian in Huntington will present on its
YouTube channel a free organ and piano concert by Marshall University Assistant Professor of Piano
Dr. Johan Botes. A versatile, world-class musician from South Africa, Botes will perform pieces including Listz' Liebestraum, Grieg's Wedding Day at Troldhaugen, Bach's Toccato, Adagio and Fuge in C major, and Bonnet's Variations de Concert. Nathan Kyle Lively, who grew up studying and playing the organ at Hinton First Presbyterian Church, will offer this webinar to help participants see "where we are, where we need to go, how we can get there, and what do we need to cover along the way - be that different types of worship styles, worship resources, and how to stay on the legal side of copyrights." Those who have already expressed interest in the webinar have been emailed the Zoom connection information; anyone else who is interested should contact the Presbytery office by Wednesday.

Festival of Faith will be a
VIRTUAL event this year, held on
August 29. Rather than meeting in person with the uncertainty that goes with it in this time, we will be meeting by Zoom, which gives us the opportunity to see and interact with each other, whether by video or phone.
Early registration is August 13 to give
time to notify leaders of how many people to expect in their workshops and to cancel any workshops due to lack of interest.
Final registration is August 26.

The 224th General Assembly’s theme was “From Lament to Hope” taken from Lamentations 5:20-21. Worship, prayers and Bible study echoed this scripture during the course of the proceedings. In a small-group discussion, I was asked what I lamented and hoped for. My lament was not being physically in the community in Baltimore and my hope was for a successful digital Assembly. Once convened, I learned I was among the 24 oldest Commissioners aged 76 and above.
The powerful Assembly opening highlighted our indigenous, first people from north, south, east and west. New co-moderators were elected by an overwhelming majority on the first ballot; one, a black male teaching elder and the other, an indigenous female ruling elder, synod executive...
This first-person reflective is part of the Synod of the Trinity series "Through My Eyes," which allows for those in the Synod's bounds to share openly what they are experiencing on a regular basis during this time when the pandemics of coronavirus and our culture of racism cannot be ignored.

PWV grant opportunities
Two types of grants, Mission Initiative and Hunger Action, are available through the Mission Committee. Both are normally not more than $2,000. The Mission Initiative Grant deadline is Sept. 1, while Hunger Action Grants are accepted throughout the year.
Mission Initiative Grants, which are paid out quarterly over the calendar year, are given to congregations that are beginning new mission-related programming, activities or relationships.

Hunger Action Grants are given to organizations and congregations engaged in direct food aid in the form of food pantries, community gardens, and other food-related activities; they can be used for food or for things that make providing food possible, like purchasing shelving, freezers and other equipment.
