March 2020 Workshop Opportunity
The Office of Communications and Marketing and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development will offer a three-part faculty communications workshop, “ Attracting the media spotlight: why it’s worth your time, what makes news and how to work the process ,” starting Friday, March 20. The first of the three workshop sessions, open to faculty of all disciplines, will take place from 10-11 a.m. March 20 in room 1145 of the Nursing Building. A featured panel will include Frank Cilluffo, director of the McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security; Jim Barth, the Lowder Eminent Scholar in Finance; and Linda Gibson-Young, associate professor in the School of Nursing.

The panel will discuss their past work with the media and the benefits of landing news coverage of one’s work and expertise. More information on the timing and location of two subsequent sessions—“ What makes news ” and “ How to work the process ”—will be forthcoming. The second session will focus on the key elements of news, how to find news in the world of higher education and factors in determining where your news might land. The third session will detail how to work the process in gaining news coverage, to include an interactive example of a faculty member interview.
