“Do you mind taking our photo?”
I heard that question asked of me and my husband over and over again this past Saturday. While we were standing beside the fall photo op at the 1st Annual Pumpkin Festival at the Mississippi Farmers Market, it was so much fun snapping phone cameras while families, singles, and even a few furry pets made their way to the Genuine MS truck that had its bed full of all things fall. But that wasn’t all. The pumpkin patch was also filled with some of the sweetest little pumpkins of all ages scooping down to pick up just the right one for their little hands.
This Saturday, October 26, we are doing it all over again! Games, bottomless bags of popcorn, live entertainment, and plenty of pumpkins and hay for you to decorate your home or office for fall.
But I have to tell you…once we came inside to see how things were going in the Market, the sight of SO many people flocking to buy produce and bags of coffee, gathering up plants, and filling their totes with baked goods–well, it all just meant the world to me! I never, and I do mean never, get over the fact that we have some of the best farmers, processors, and artisans in Mississippi who give so much of their time and energy to be here every Saturday. And y’all, that is no small thing to me.
We are blessed with a building that provides everyone with warmth and shelter. We are blessed with a team of marketers who are so committed to their businesses and to each other. We are blessed to have the opportunity to serve this growing community. And when I leave the Market every Saturday, I just leave…thankful. So very thankful!
I’ve never been more inspired than I am now, working as Manager of the Mississippi Farmers Market. Not only is it the most humbling (and can I just say plum FUN) opportunity, but it’s the people of the Market that matter most to me. I’ve said that before, but it sure is worth repeating, because the people is the WHY behind everything we do here.
So, if you wake up this Saturday and it’s a beautiful sunny day, or even if it’s raining buckets, still come to the second week's round of the 1st Annual Pumpkin Patch at the MS Farmers Market, because we will have all the festivities, either inside or outside, all set up for…you!
In Growing Gratitude,
Lisa
