At ICF, we love to tell the story of Mary Carr Greer, who lived at River View Farm (now Ivy Creek Natural Area) and was the principal of Albemarle Training School for approximately 20 years, until its closure upon the opening of Burley High School in 1951. Until its closure, ATS was the only high school available for African Americans in Albemarle County north of Esmont. Now it is memorialized with a marker on West Rio Road, not far from its former location. Check it out the next time you're driving to Ivy Creek.
