Opportunity for Good:
The CZU August Lightning Complex Fire has consumed over 80,000 acres and approximately 77,000 people were ordered to evacuate in Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties. Puente de la Costa Sur (PUENTE) staff joined with the Red Cross, the Human Service Agency of San Mateo County and the Sheriff’s Department to staff an evacuation center at Half Moon Bay High School and to provide support and information to families and individuals who need a place to stay. You can help by making a donation to Puente’s Emergency Fire Relief Fund. Go to www.mypuente.org for more information.
Our Next Service on September 6th:
Touchstones Theme for September: Worth and Dignity
Join us on September 6th for a timely conversation about mental health and mental illness. Our Worship Leader for that Sunday, Verna Barrientos, will remind us of how mental health issues touch in some way all of our lives. Verna will give a brief historical overview of the treatment of people with mental health challenges. Then she will describe how times have changed (and stayed the same). She also will share local resources. We will also have time to discuss our own stories (if we so choose) in a safe and supportive environment.

Upcoming Service:
Touchstones Theme for September:
Worth and Dignity: Join us on September 20th for a timely conversation about getting Unitarian Universalism on the right side of race. In a homily entitled “The Beloved Journey,” Bill Heavlin contemplates the text and subtext of the proposed 8th UU Principle. Our beloved musicians that day are pianist Shauna Pickett-Gordon and guitarist Mo Robinson.

Bill can "unpack" a Principle like no one else I have heard.
—Connie Spearing

8th UU Principle (draft): “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”

Thank you!
A new UUCC record! For the Coastside Crisis Fund-raiser on August 5th, total donations amounted to $4,195 dollars!

A special thanks to Tricia Dell for organizing this fundraiser and to Dianne Baker for explaining the impact of COVID-19 on Coastside Hope. Thanks to all of UU Coastside Community who answered the call to help our neighbors in need.
A Special Thanks to Bonnie Miller
We wish to acknowledge all the great work Bonnie Miller has done for UUCC over the past 18 months. Bonnie is reducing some of her pro bono commitments, including her time on the UUCC Planning Committee. We will miss her artistic eye, her editing skills, and her design of many important forms that streamlined operations.
UU Coastside Community Photos Wanted
We're looking to add photos of people on our website and in our slideshows. If you'd like to share a photo that expresses who you are — whether helping others, reading a favorite book, dancing in your living room, anything we can share publicly — please send your photos to uucoastside@gmail.com. Laurel's "Happy Place" is cleaning our local beaches!
Joys & Concerns:
One of the ways we weave community is by sharing aspects of our lives with each other, our joys and concerns. For our upcoming service, please email your Joys & Concerns to uucoastside@gmail.com.
