Grande Reserve Elementary School Families,
It is hard to believe first quarter has ended, Halloween and Parent/Teacher Conferences are past, and Thanksgiving is on the horizon.
Remember, we want to stay in school so please practice safe social distancing, limited travel, and mask wearing any time you are out of the house! If anyone in the home is exhibiting COVID related symptoms or is awaiting test result, please remember to keep all children/siblings who attend schools in the district home as well!
Our students are continuing to use RazKids, Dreambox, Khan, and other resources. Dreambox is another one that students can do at home, 15-20 minutes per night.
As we continue to settle into this school year, I encourage our students and parents to communicate with me regarding any concerns or suggestions you have to improve our school community. I also encourage you to become an active member of the GRES family—follow us on social media (@115gres), participate in GRES and PTO activities, and recognize our dedicated employees and incredible students with positive thoughts and messages (any messages I receive are passed on to the staff)!
Sincerely,
Michele Breyne
GRES Principal

Teacher Feature
We would like to add a special section to our weekly newsletters but we need your help! Each week we would like to give a special "shoutout" to a GRES teacher. Students or parents can nominate a teacher to be included in our "Teacher Feature" section of the weekly newsletter by sharing a reason(s) why they make school a wonderful place to be! Your input can be shared by completing the digital submission form or you can print our paper copy and have your child turn it into the office at school. Thank you for your support, we are looking forward to sharing your responses!

Family in Need
We have a family in our community that is experienceing some hardship due to medical related issues and ongoing treatment as a result. In short, the family would benefit from support through at least mid-December, possibly longer.
Specific supports that would be appreciated include:
Gas Cards (long drives to the city)
Target Gift Cards (food/clothes)
Restaurant Gift Cards (for the sitter to have dinner delivered for the children while the parents are at the hospital in the city)
If you are able to support in any way at all, please drop off (or send with your students to turn in to the office) a gift card listed for the options above.

Grande Reserve Elementary School, as part of Y115, we will be collecting items for distribution to our families in need as well as new unwrapped toys for support of Operation Santa Claus 2020 sponsored by the Yorkville Junior Women’s Club in partnership with the Kendall County Community Food Pantry.
Wonderful local opportunities for giving!
And if your family is in need of some extra help this year or you know a family that could use help with the holidays, please contact Ms. Lickfelt, social worker ([email protected]), Mrs. Countryman, or Mrs. Breyne.
To donate please return the gift donation (unwrapped)
to GRES by Friday, Dec 11th, 2020.

I'm including some photos of another virtual author visit we had at the end of October, perfectly fitting for the week of Halloween. Check out our social media for some photos from our Halloweed parade and Veteran's Day celebration. It was great to see so many families participate in a little 'normal' fun. :)
Lindsay Currie joined us for a virtual author visit via Crowdcast. Her new book, Scritch Scratch made her the perfect author to have the week of Halloween; and it's spooky and full of Chicago fun! :) If you'd like, it is available to order in our virtual book fair through next week. For more information, please visit her at www.lindsaycurrie.com.

Teacher Feature Digital Submission Form
My son Derek is an e learner, which we are VERY happy with!! He had ILT with Ms. Hamer on Monday, at the end of the meeting with only 1 minute remaining, Derek asked her if he could read her a book. She said, “sure we have about a minute left, if you want to start it” my son started reading “Horse Meets Dog” by Tim Miller. He was so excited to read & was reading with such great expression! I noticed the minute was up & I knew it was the end of class so when he was done with the page I just said “ok buddy I think Ms. Hamer has to go because class is over” she GRACIOUSLY said “oh no no, that’s ok, Derek do you want to finish the book & if you’re ok with it, I would love to send it to Tim Miller?” Derek was SOOOOOOO EXCITED AS HE LOVES TIM MILLER!!!
I just wanted to let you know how special this was!!! The fact that Ms. Hamer not only stayed after her class time ended to let him finish reading & was SO patient & kind, REALLY made Derek’s day (& mine) what a sweetheart she is!! I just thought she really went above & beyond & wanted her to have some recognition!! Thank you so much for reading my email! Big ups to Ms. Hamer!

School Lunches & Send Money to School:
-
The U.S Department of Agriculture has extended the free food service program through June 30, 2021. Therefore, all children under the age of 18 who reside within district boundaries will continue to receive free meals through the district, whether or not they attend a Yorkville CUSD 115 school. In addition, Aramark, the district’s food service vendor, is incorporating more menu options for all grade levels. Additional entrée options for both in-school lunches as well as the Tuesday meal pick up events will be included in the November menus. Also, chocolate milk will be available beginning in November as well. If you have any questions, please email Mike Vargas, director of business services, at [email protected].
