AUGUST 2019
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE TO THE AIA LOUISIANA MEMBERSHIP
Jesse Cannon FAIA
August 8, 2019

Since the July 12 update, composition of the EDSC was expanded to 14 members (13 AIA LA members and 1 non-voting member) to reflect the future membership and demographic diversity of AIA LA in terms of age, race, and gender. See updated EDSC listing at the end of this report.

The EDSC provided input to update past job descriptions and minimum qualifications for an Executive Director. The EDSC also reviewed Helene Dreiling’s cost proposal to facilitate the search process. Agreement was reached with Helene to participate in and manage the ED search for a cost of $18,000. The EDSC approved the cost proposal. As previously noted, funds are available in the AIALA operating budget for this expense.

Helene participated at the end of the bi-weekly EDSC conference call on August 8. She was advised of approval of the cost proposal and development of a draft ED job description/qualifications document. With the EDSC approval, she will initiate work on a timeline and review the draft job description/qualifications document prepared by the EDSC. Helene indicated that both tasks will be reported at the next EDSC conference call, which is scheduled on August 22.

Tasks that were discussed at the August 8 call included:
  • ED search timeline
  • Reviewing and updating the Executive Director job description
  • Determining an ED salary range

Future tasks include:
  • Development of a Notice of Advertisement
  • Issuance of the Notice of Advertisement
  • Review of resumes
  • Development of a short list of potential candidates
  • Candidate interviews
  • Selection of a new Executive Director for AIALA

Timeline dates for the various tasks will be provided in future monthly reports. The EDSC will continue to meet every two weeks by conference call, or as needed, to keep the process moving. Questions can be directed to members of the EDSC via email or phone.
