Out in the Field!
It's hot outside to be sure, but that doesn't mean farmers are slowing down. And neither are Local Food Safety Collaborative's partner organizations! They are hard at work, bringing food safety education and training straight to the farm. Here's a few of our favorite moments from food safety field days and farm walks held across the country this summer...

Congratulations to John Bouma and family, the winners of the hand-wash station provided by Iowa State University Extension at a FSMA Field Day hosted by Iowa Farmers Union in Ottumwa, Iowa on July 16!

Kentucky Horticulture Council hosted an Ag Water Field Day in Winchester, Kentucky where growers rode out to kale production fields for a sampling demonstration, discussion of sample results, management techniques and farm water quality plans. In a post-workshop survey, 100% of participants indicated they learned new information about water quality and produce safety!

- IFAI Food Safety Webinar on Wildlife: Webinar on how to mitigate possible contamination because of animal intrusion.
- PSA Website En EspaƱol: Produce Safety Alliance has translated their website to Spanish, and houses educational materials, tools, FAQs and PSA Grower training information.
- North Central Region Annual Conference: NCR Center hosted their annual FSMA conference in June. The notes from the listening sessions and the presentations are available on their website.
- Q&A from the Southeastern Soil Summit: Produce Safety Alliance hosted a Southeastern Soil Summit in Atlanta to address questions around food safety and soil. Read the recently published Q&A here.

United Fresh
is looking for volunteers to join their
Harmonized GAP Technical Working Group
. The goal of the group is to compile diverse inputs from the food industry -- buyers, producers, and other stakeholders -- to further strengthen this focused food safety audit. By gathering feedback, United Fresh hopes to make revisions to the
Harmonized Standard
to reduce producer fatigue and make auditing simpler. The group will meet mid-August.
