Putting luck aside, I see hard work in our future, but I can also picture the great rewards and fun times ahead of us! The moments for teaching youth about community, commitment, and the courage to try new things are all within our reach.

County Activity Day
|
When: Tuesday, April 28 - 2:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. (by appointment)
Where: Caldwell Meeting Rooms, 120 Hospital Ave. NE, Lenoir, NC 28645
In addition to presentations, we will have a non-competitive show and share for our Cloverbuds (ages 5-7) and some 4-H Entertains activity options.
The deadline to pre-register for County Activity Day will be April 10, and this will be done online through a Google form. The April newsletter will have more information about all pre-registration, and our website and Facebook page will have more in the coming weeks.

State 4-H Camps
|
Caldwell County 4-H has two reserved spots left for Millstone 4-H Camp's residential camp August 2-7, 2020.
4-H members can receive reduced rates for any state 4-H camp by registering through our Caldwell County office.
To reserve a spot, pay the $50 deposit to our Caldwell County office anytime between now and the end of January. Then, the remainder, minus any camp scholarships, will be due in May.
To start registration paperwork, you'll need to enroll in 4-H through 4HOnline.com That enrollment and the couple Millstone-specific forms will be due at the same time as the May payment.

Adult Volunteer Opportunities

New postings are available. Currently, our open volunteer roles are for Caldwell County 4-H Council Advisers, a 4-H Cooking Club Co-Leader and County Activity Day judges.
Adult volunteer
postings include a description of the role, the time commitment associated and any qualifications/training the person filling the position would need. Whether you can give a little or a lot, please familiarize yourself with this section.

Save the Date for Club Leaders Training
|
When: Tuesday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m.

N.C. Cooperative Extension, Burke County, Morganton, NC 28655
Club Leaders are receiving additional information about a club-focused training, taking place May 12. There will be a follow-up Zoom (video conferencing) portion on 4-H Club finances on May 19.

Youth involved in the council will gain leadership skills and meet other youth in the county. This month they will be helping to plan the Teen Leaders summer program.

First Garden Club meeting for 2020
|

Garden Club will be kicking off their year midway through March. In addition to tending gardens and growing produce, they'll take time to focus on entomology this year.

February in Review
Erin Shows, Moranna Deal, Makayla Pruitt, Kate Black and Jordan Annas earned first place as a Mixed Horse Bowl team at the West District competition, and this qualified them for the state competition. Jennifer Shows is their coach.

This year's topic is "How has NC Agriculture affected your life today?" The competition is open to 6th, 7th & 8th grade 4-H'ers across the state, and p
rizes will be awarded to the top two students in each grade level.
North Carolina State 4-H Beekeeping Essay Due: Sunday, March 15
This year's North Carolina 4-H Beekeeping Essay contest topic is:"Honey bees have developed special skills to overwinter in the United States. Please discuss one of these skills and then include a discussion about what you do to prepare your hives for winter. Include a photo of one of your hives, either using infrared technology or showing winter wrap, hay bales, special feeders, etc. to demonstrate how you prepare your hives for winter."
