Dear Residents –
The beginning of the week began with great news. Pfizer announced that they had produced a vaccine candidate found to be 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 in their stage 3 trials. This news is especially exciting for us Orangetown residents, as Pfizer’s major vaccine research and development activities are located right here in Pearl River.
While the Pfizer news is promising, with the number of positive COVID cases on the rise, Governor Cuomo imposed new restrictions, effective today. State liquor-licensed establishments, including bars and restaurants, will close at 10 p.m. After 10p.m., Restaurants will only be able to do curbside/food pickup. Gyms will also close at 10 p.m. In addition, gatherings at private residences are limited to no more than 10 people (unless the household is more than 10 people). While none of us are happy with these restrictions, the numbers do not lie. Please do whatever you can to help stop the spread or Gov. Cuomo will be at it again!
On a more positive note, it was my pleasure to spend Veterans Day handing out boxed lunches to our Veterans. The expressions on their faces was priceless. Most left with fully stocked cars – boxed lunches, a custom US Veteran mask, a flyer regarding Thanksgiving Day Dinner, a bag of candy and leaf bags to help clean up their garden (should the rain ever stop!).
Please know that Town Hall is open for service and that we are here for any resident who needs help. We are all in this together.
Respectfully,
|

Thanksgiving - Free Veterans Dinner Bags
|
The Town of Orangetown is sponsoring Free Thanksgiving Dinners for Military and Veteran Families with Veterans Angels of Hope, a not-for-profit charity that assists both veterans and current military personnel.
Last year, Veterans Angels of Hope was able to provide meals to 800 military and veteran families for Thanksgiving, Christmas/Hanukah and Easter. This year they are hoping to exceed that goal. Aside from providing food sustenance, Veterans Angels of Hope offers Equine Therapy for veterans. This proven therapy will give psychological care to our men and women in uniform suffering from P.T.S.D.
Your help is crucial to continue their vision to feed our military and veterans families along with helping them solve the problem of P.T.S.D. that is taking the lives of so many veterans. Donations will go towards a more normal life for our military and veterans.
If you would like, kindly send your tax-deductible contribution payable to the Veterans Angels of Hope, a 501(c)(3) charity, to:

To all our Veterans - Thank you for your service!
|
|
How did you spend Veterans Day 2020? Here in Orangetown we were able to say in person "Thank you for your service" to over 100 veterans who stopped by to pick up a boxed lunch.
Each veteran received a lunch of their choosing as well as a customized face mask and our gratitude. We were humbled in their presence.
We would be remiss if we did not thank Daisy Troop 40015 for their lovely Thanksgiving Day paper turkeys, that were distributed to our Veterans. Troop Leaders Margie Hanson, Andrea Levin and Amanda Levin as well as their Daisys - Alana, Anna, Annalise, Besa, Isabelle, Katia, Kaylee, Kelsey, Lily, Megan, Mia and Molly - THANK YOU for helping making our Veterans Day that much more special.

Friendly Reminder from your
Orangetown Police Department.
We have entered into the season when thieves target our residential areas for late afternoon and early evening burglaries. Since the sun goes down earlier than many get home from work or school, these homes can be targeted as easy prey since a dark house advertises that nobody is home.
To help combat these thieves, remember to leave lights on or better yet, install timers. Motion sensors are a great deterrent as well.
Let’s all be great neighbors and look out for one another. If you see something suspicious feel free to contact OPD at (845) 359-3700 and our officers will check it out.

The new Food Pantry is coming along...they have received some amazing donations! Thank you to everyone who sent in via Amazon and dropped off!
But they have a long way to go, especially to feed our families for Thanksgiving. So please give whatever you can. They have more and more families struggling and they need to stock their shelves and their refrigerators.
There is another in-person drop off on Tuesday, November 17th and Thursday, November 19th between 4-7 at the side kitchen door of TZE. And you can continue to order from our Amazon Wishlist here.
Town of Orangetown will have 2 drop off locations for anyone who is unable to get over to TZE.
For anyone wishing to donate food items, please feel free to bring them to Town Hall, 26 W. Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg, NY or The Parks Department at 81 Hunt Road, Orangeburg, NY.
And as always - thanks for your generosity.
