The Texas Kappa Sigma Educational Foundation has chosen Michael Sharpe '79 as Tau Man of the Year, in recognition of his career and civic achievements and outstanding service to the Tau Chapter.
A committed philanthropist, Mike gives substantial financial support, time, and talent to a broad spectrum of charities. He currently serves as President of Ministry & Board Solutions, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in governance, logistics, and operations for faith-based charities.
He retired as Senior Vice-President of Citigroup in 2015 after a 20-year career, during which he was a six-time Chairman's Forum award winner. He achieved the Life Management Institute's ranking of Master Fellow in recognition of his expertise within the insurance industry — an honor earned by fewer than 1,000 individuals worldwide.
Mike has been a TKSEF Officer/Director since 2008, serving terms as Secretary, Treasurer, and President of the Tau Trustees. He served as a Tau Chapter alumnus advisor in the '90s and, in 2016, was honored with the Frank Erwin Award for his many years of leadership. His father, John T. Sharpe ’55, was honored as Tau Man of the Year in 1982 and 1996.
"There's no one more dedicated to protecting Tau Chapter's legacy than Mike," said Danny Grant '79. "His hard work, high standards, and attention to detail have helped us maintain our standing as one of the country's best chapters."
He currently serves as Assistant District Grand Master for the Central Texas District of Kappa Sigma (Baylor, SMU, and TCU). He has earned the Silver Scroll Award and Jackson's Man Pin #1499, Emerald Level. As an undergraduate, he was a Tau Chapter delegate to the 1979 Conclave and has attended four other conclaves as an alumnus while serving on the House Corporation over the past 11 years.
"Mike works harder than anyone I know to maintain and nourish his friendships with his Tau brothers," said Rick Warren '79. "I feel fortunate to know Mike and call him a friend."
