A Note from Our Executive Director

Dear Friends:

This past month, our team had the very unique experience of meeting with a group of visitors from Saudi Arabia under the auspices of the Greater Cincinnati World Affairs Council and the US Department of State  International Visitor Leadership Program . The title of their project was "Social Services in the United States." CILO was the last visit of their two week stay in the U.S.

Through State Department interpreters, we enjoyed a very nice dialogue about the similarities and differences of social services in our respective countries as it relates to people with disabilities. What we all found the most unique about their nation was that homelessness does not exist. People who may be homeless at any given point in time are given immediate services to get them back with a roof over their head. Along the way, our guests learned a bit in English and we picked up a few words in Arabic.

They were impressed with what we do as an Independent Living Center and the array of services we provide to our consumers and the community. I would like to thank the World Affairs Council for inviting us to participate in this program. We look forward to having the opportunity to welcome more international visitors in the future.

As always, I want to hear from you. Please feel free to contact me by email or by phone at 513-241-2600, extension 211.

Sincerely,

Rob

PS- I once again have a $10 Starbucks gift card for the first person to email me after having read this message!

Grant Update

CILO is proud to have provided new beds and/or new bedding items for 22 children ages newborn to 18 years through a grant awarded last year from the Rotary Foundation of Cincinnati. Before receiving their new beds these children were sleeping on the floor, with parents, or crowding with siblings. We are happy to be able to provide the comfort of a safe, good night's sleep for these children!
