Important Announcements
Dear CCA Families,

On Friday, August 28, 2020 Dr. Siegfried, CCSD Superintendent, shared an important message with all families.  Click here to see that message again:

Preventing the Spread of COVID-19
Along with CCSD we have met or exceeded all health department guidelines and have multiple overlapping strategies in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 here at CCA. Our staff is required to complete the COVID symptom tracker each day before they enter the building.  We check this list every day to ensure that we have a healthy staff ready for your children.  We have also asked that every family complete this checklist  at home, prior to coming to bringing your child to CCA so that we know all children are healthy.  We have linked the COVID symptom tracker on our mobile app for your convenience.

We have worked diligently to keep our K-4 students in their classroom cohorts each day. We do not intermix our students with different classes. We arrive at separate doors, we stay in our separate classrooms, we eat lunch separately, we play separately and when we leave at the end of the day we stay in our separate groups.  We have reduced the amount of adults in each classroom each day.  We have developed very specific hand washing routines throughout the day and we have increased the frequency of sanitizing our hands.  We have implemented additional cleaning practices to keep our classroom surfaces clean each day.  Every staff member and every student at CCA wears a mask.  We are doing all that we can to remain healthy and safe in our learning environment.

What we are struggling to stop is children being sent to school from homes where family members have COVID-related symptoms, are waiting for COVID test results or have returned from out-of-state travel and camps.  We need your help.
  • If any member of your household has any COVID-related symptoms or is getting tested based on symptoms, DO NOT send your child(ren) to school until:
  • All symptoms have resolved for all family members.
  • Negative test results for the family member are confirmed.
  • An alternate diagnosis is provided by a physician.
  • If your child(ren) has just returned from out-of-state travel or an overnight camp, DO NOT send them to school for 14 days after their return.

Sending your child(ren) to school under any of these circumstances is irresponsible and jeopardizes the entire classroom, grade level or cohort of students. This is the moment when we need to put the greater good first and make the decision to protect your teacher and the rest of the class from any possible exposure. If we all do our part, we can keep students in school. If we do not, we will have COVID cases and we will be forced to move to remote/virtual learning.

Please see this letter from Tri-County Health Department: A Call for Shared Community Responsibility in Supporting the Reopening of Schools.

If you do need to quarantine, please notify our front desk and then contact your child’s teacher(s) for homework and assignments.  We will do our very best to provide those for you in a timely manner.  Please know that we do not offer virtual/online classes at this time for grades K-4. We will continue to monitor the health of each class and if at any point we need to switch to a full remote/virtual classroom,  you will be notified immediately.

How we handle a confirmed case of COVID-19
When we receive word of a positive case or symptomatic individual, we immediately begin contact tracing and determine next steps.  CCSD has a team that helps and supports us with this process. Our immediate steps include:
  • Contacting the positive staff member or student to confirm quarantine;
  • Beginning the interview and data collection process to determine last date of attendance, close contacts, symptom onset, testing dates, etc. with a timeframe starting 48 hours prior to test date or symptoms;
  • Discussing contact tracing with Tri-County Health for guidance;
  • Determining whether any students or staff need to quarantine and contacting them directly;
  • Communicating to the staff and community of the site about the case even if there is no additional impact; and
  • Ordering a full-building deep-clean that night.

We will communicate information regarding any cases impacting or related to CCA and we will fully protect individuals’ FERPA and HIPAA privacy.

Grades 5-8 online/virtual learning
Our students in grades 5-8 continue to be served online in our virtual classrooms. Our instruction is delivered 5 days a week through synchronous learning opportunities that are defined by our Remote Learning Schedule along with asynchronous learning opportunities that have been provided as part of the learning resources available to our students in Schoology and/or Google Classroom.  I am proud of our students who have demonstrated active engagement through participation in their classes.  By being an active member of the virtual class and by completing coursework and assignments our students’ learning has been off to an incredible start!  We continue to take attendance in each class and we measure our student engagement through both informal and formal assessments.

In closing I want to thank you for your partnership. Our ability to maintain our current  In-Person learning for our K-4 is 100% dependent upon our collective actions and decisions. Please continue to stay committed to doing your part to ensure that we all stay safe and healthy.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at aschultz@cherrycreekacademy.org or on my personal cell phone 920-216-9111.

Respectfully,
Ann Schultz
