Educating educators
This past weekend our dream team of LGBTQI-inclusive K-12 history trainers were at the
59th Annual California Council for the Social Studies
conference in Orange County, making sure that the state's History and Social Science educators are well-equipped for a genuinely intersectional approach to all histories–inclusive of LGBTQI people and our contributions.
The collaboration between
ONE Archives
in Los Angeles and Our Family Coalition has been the work of these three, dedicated educators, enabling each of our organizations to do the work we do even better. That work for us, last year alone, meant trainings for over 1,000 educators.
The biggest winners are California's school children, who are beginning to experience K-12 History and Social Studies curricula in a new way: with LGBTQ people side-by-side along with everyone else they're studying. They deserve no less.

Help our website's 2020 vision
We're knee-deep revamping our website, but we always want to learn a little more about what you want on it.
What do you need to know to keep your family thriving? We'll fold it into the new site if we can.

Welcome, Drew!
We're thrilled to welcome
Drew Lakhardt
to the OFC Staff as our new
East Bay Programs Coordinator
!
Drew and their family have been a steady and warm presence at OFC events since 2015. Drew has spoken at two of our Womb to Grow alternative conception events, and has been facilitating our East Bay Playgroup. It's fitting: their family has been coming to it for years, first with one child, and then again with their second (pictured with Drew below, at our Tilden CampOut a few years back).
More about Drew–and the whole OFC crew, old and new–in the coming months. Meanwhile: a hearty and grateful welcome!

Alameda County voters:
YES ON C
this Tuesday!
Measure C, also known as The Children’s Health and Childcare Initiative, is critical for Alameda County children, particularly kids from low-income families who desperately need access to high quality health and child care.
Measure C will:
- Expand access to high quality child care for all Alameda County families.
- Attract and retain excellent early educators to provide better care for our kids.
- Help to create access to early pediatric health care for all Alameda County kids.
- Ensure that Children’s Hospital’s Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center stays open and is fully staffed.
|
|
If you haven't already voted by mail: do you have a plan for how you'll vote this Tuesday? Before or after work? With kid on hip, or after dropping them at school? This year, there's a lot to weigh in on, especially on behalf of our kids.
