Looking back on February
(top: Amy Eggert, Carl Sandlin, Karen Ridgway, Kay Rhea, Joan Korpal, Ed Jensen, Hazel Cole;  bottom: Rachel Sciretti, Sandra Ladner, Beth Dudley, Diane Cameron, Diane Gonzalez, Dot August, Charlene Pettigrew)

Last week, a team of fourteen set out for Baldwin, Louisiana to join 50 others from across the US for a week of service at the UMCOR Depot @ Sager Brown. UMCOR stands for the United Methodist Committee on Relief. A depot station is one of two major warehouses which processes and stores supplies that can be quickly mobilized in response to global disasters. These supplies include school supply kits, hygiene kits, and flood buckets. In addition, teams spend time in the community among some of the most vulnerable of South Louisiana. Many on the Chapelwood team have been coming for close to a decade.  Click here to read our blog

Next year's dates are  February 21-26, 2021. We have space for at least 14 people and would love to have you as one of them. Talk with one of these fine people to learn how meaningful this week was and how you can get involved.

February's Senior Adult Lunch Series with NASA's Andrzej Stewart

We enjoyed a fascinating program on where we are in the mission to send astronauts to Mars. We learned about the research and realities of humans living in space for extended missions. God's world is so big, we are thankful for those with curious minds, willing bodies, and tenacious spirits to plunge the mysteries and share their findings with us.

According to the FBI, scam artists seek out older adults because:
  • They have saved more money.
  • They are less likely to report fraud.
  • They are polite and trusting.
  • Impairment makes it more difficult to detect schemes.
Knowing about today's more common scams can help you identify and prevent them from happening to you.  Join us for lunch and conversation with Chapelwood's own Bill Thorne as he shares with us some "red flags" of fraud and ways to protect ourselves.

Reservations are required by March 19. Contact Kimberly Pieper at (713) 354-4410. Click here for more information.

Serving Opportunities
The Buckingham

The Buckingham is home to some of Chapelwood's saints and sages and even though they can't physically come to the church-house, they are still connected through long-time relationships and this satellite worship gathering each Sunday. We are in need of volunteers for this important ministry - all you need is the willingness to share your worship experience one Sunday a month, wear a smile, hold a hand, give a hug, and pass out bulletins. Contact Adrian Granger with questions, to arrange a visit, and to sign up at  [email protected].

The Gathering Place

Chapelwood hosts a themed-party on the first Mondays of most months for folks living with memory loss. It is a time of great joy and friendship. Our next Gatherings are March 2 and April 6. If you know of someone who would benefit from this ministry or if you are interested in join our team of volunteers, contact Ed Jensen.

For more info on the ministry, click here.
Looking for a good book to read?

We'd love to have you join us in LC-211 each month at 1:00 p.m. to discuss some of the books everyone is talking about. Everyone is welcome.
