Hey, Pegasus Partners! We are hosting a special Pegasus Partner Happy Hour this month at the Pegasus Ranch. On
Thursday, November 21st Scout & Cellar wine consultant Stephanie Suddarth, who is herself a Pegasus Partner, will bring a sampling of Scout & Cellar clean-crafted wine for ten lucky people to sample. We are always looking for opportunities to make our happy hours interesting and fun, and what better way than introducing you to HEALTHIER WINE?? For those of us who love wine (we know we do), this is a perfect opportunity to discover delicious, low-sugar wine.

The Pegasus Project Ranch
The Pegasus Project is fortunate to be affiliated with some very fine horsemen. We are particularly fortunate that these horsemen are willing to come share their knowledge with the people of East Texas. Bruce Logan, 2016 AQHA VRH Open Ranch Cutting World Champion, will be teaching a horsemanship clinic at the Pegasus Ranch on December 5, 6, 7 and 8. Bruce, who operates a seven thousand acre working cattle ranch in Loving, Texas, is a gifted colt starter and all around horseman. He is known throughout the U.S. and abroad for his ability to help challenging horses trained in all disciplines. His horsemanship philosophy is based on a foundation that helps the horse stay confident and supple. Bruce believes in putting the horse's mind, body and spirit first to accomplish the goals set for the horse and rider. Because of our longtime relationship with Bruce and because our horsemanship philosophies align, Bruce serves as an advisor to The Pegasus Project board of directors. From December 5th through December 8th, Bruce will be at the Pegasus Ranch working with a variety of horses and students including Pegasus trainer, Anthony LaSpina. Bruce and Anthony will work with a large number of Pegasus horses to advance each to the next level of training. Our covered arena will be completed, and we will have a ProCutter flag installed so you can work on your cow cutting skills!

In September of this year, The Pegasus Project accepted two horses relinquished by their loving owners. Due to health issues, the owners were no longer able to care for their beloved horses. Since they wanted to ensure the safety of both horses for the rest of their lives, they turned to Pegasus. The owners are long-time Pegasus supporters, and they generously donated tack, a round pen, a horse trailer, and significant funds to help support our efforts on behalf of these wonderful horses. We are grateful for their assistance and are more than happy to provide the horses with a soft landing and transition them into their new lives.

Annie is the other horse. Annie is so sweet, Allyson calls her "Sugar on Four Feet." She is truly the most loving mare to grace the planet. Annie is sensitive, and her transition to Pegasus was hard for her. She missed her people and felt a little lost. With Willie's help and a lot of TLC from the Pegasus staff, Annie has settled in with her new herd. Now that she is feeling better, her true personality is emerging and it is absolutely delightful.
This very healthy 16-year-old Quarter Horse, adores people and other horses. Annie loves attention and to be groomed and doted on. She is sensitive and responsive and will make the right adopter a great trail horse. Her prior owners adopted her from the Doris Day Center in 2012 and enjoyed her as their primary trail horse for the past 7 years. We do not know Annie's history prior to 2012.

A Note from Allyson
Adoption Process
Our mission at The Pegasus Project consists of four main parts. Rescue. Rehab. Retrain. Re-home. Each of these elements is as equally important as the other. The re-homing process can be the most challenging of all.
Finding the right adopter for each horse is among the most important things we do.
When it comes to adoption, our number one goal is to properly match the horse to the adopter. We go to great lengths to make sure that the adopter is choosing a horse that is suitable for his/her skill level and riding
discipline. We never want a person to adopt the "wrong" horse because a mismatch can lead to disillusionment, unhappiness, fear, or even injury. If a person loses interest, that creates an uncertain future for the horse. We are committed to each and every horse that comes through our gates, and we invest much time, energy, love and money into their health and well-being. We spend countless hours rehabilitating and training them to get them ready for FOREVER homes. An adoption from Pegasus is a lifelong commitment.
Once you adopt a Pegasus horse, you can never sell, trade, or give it away If for any reason you cannot keep the horse to the end of its natural life, you must alert us. We reserve the right to either take the horse back or find another suitable home. We never want to see these horses "back in the system," and we are committed to their well-being for life. Also, under the terms of the Adoption Contract, no breeding is allowed.
Basically, here's how our adoption process works. If you are interested in adopting, please submit an application. After we receive your application, we will contact you to discuss, and we will assess whether we have a horse that may fit your needs and abilities. At that point, we will make an appointment for you to come to our ranch to meet the horse or horses you are considering adopting. Prior to, or upon arrival at the ranch, you will be required to pay a $50 application fee. If you are looking to adopt a horse for riding, we will evaluate your skill level. If you appear to be a proper match, you will be allowed to ride the horse under our supervision. Often, we can tell immediately if the adopter is well-suited to the horse. Other times, we may require you to make more than one visit. If the match appears to be a good one, and you wish to proceed with the adoption, we will check your references and a Pegasus representative will make a visit to your home or the boarding facility where you intend to house the horse. We will work with you to ensure that your place is horse-safe and proper for horse keeping. Once the horse's housing is approved and the references check out, we can proceed with the adoption.
We also offer the opportunity to "sponsor" the horse you wish to adopt. For $400/month, you can sponsor the horse and come ride with us over the course of the sponsorship to ensure the match is good. During the sponsorship, the horse is listed as "adoption pending" and is reserved for you. If all goes well, you can adopt the horse at the end of the sponsorship. If the match does not prove to be a good one, the adoption will be cancelled.
Our companion-only horses and donkeys have adoption fees of $500. Horses that are rideable have adoption fees starting at $1000 and increasing from there based upon the horse's history and training level.
We aim to make the adoption process a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Nothing makes us happier than to welcome new people into the Pegasus family by providing them with the perfect horse. We like to think that when we adopt out a Pegasus horse, we don't lose a horse, we gain a family member.
