MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES:
Online help for students and families
The outbreak of COVID-19 can result in stress, especially for students who may be struggling to process fear and anxiety related to the virus.  FVSD's Support Services team of School Counselors and School Psychologists has compiled information on our site which may be helpful for students and families.  Included are resources for talking to students about COVID-19 and coping with stress.  Moreover, links and information on FVSD's mental health and wellness resources, including CareSolace, Outreach Concern and our middle school counselors, are available.  Lastly, there are a number of community healthy partners and emergency resources included for our families.  For all of our mental health and wellness resources, please visit our site here.

SPOTLIGHT: Courreges Students Dirk, Meka and Beck Troutman Student Book Scholars 2020 National Winners!
CoreyBullyWinner
Way to go Dirk, Meka and Beck Troutman!!

Courreges students Dirk, Meka and Beck Troutman were recently honored as 2020 National Winners of the Student Book Scholars contest for their book, From Bullies to Buddies!  Hosted by the National Youth Foundation, the Student Book Scholars contest challenges student teams to create books based upon an assigned theme.  This year's theme was anti-bullying.  The winning book is published and distributed to local schools and libraries.  The winning team also receives hardcover copies of their book and $500.  Dirk, Meka and Beck's book, From Bullies to Buddies, tells the story of a student who is bullied and bravely reaches out to the bully to make friends.  The Troutman siblings did a fantastic job writing and illustrating their book.  Recently, Super Bowl Champion Corey Clement of the Philadelphia Eagles joined the National Youth Foundation for a zoom call with these fantastic students to celebrate their recognition.  Congratulations Dirk, Meka and Beck Troutman!

SPOTLIGHT: Parent Survey Results
Fall Reopen Parent Survey Results

At the end of October, we reached out to our elementary and middle school parents to gain insight into the experiences of families returning to in person instruction through the Hybrid Model.  Nearly 2,000 responses were received across the two surveys.  Parents shared positive feedback regarding communication both at the District and site level.  In addition, most parents at both levels noted that the safety measures implemented at drop-off/pick-up and during in-class instruction were effective or very effective.  And, parents at both levels also noted that the return to in-person learning has has a mostly positive effect on their student's learning and social-emotional well-being.  Valuable feedback was also shared through survey results and open ended questions regarding self-guided/remote instructional activities.

Moreover, we also survey our students in grades 3-8 regarding their experiences to date participating in in-person instruction through the Hybrid Model.  More than 2,400 responses were received across the two surveys.  The majority of students shared positive feedback regarding in-person instruction, showing some preference for being in the classroom versus virtual on Mondays.  And the while some students reported challenges in learning, the majority of students shared that they felt their teacher was there to help them when needed. Students at both levels also shared advice for their teachers/principals as well as questions for staff that will help to further guide our programs going forward.
