Greetings!
I’m glad you dropped in for this week’s textile information “booster shot.” If you’re like me, you’re beginning to hear the rumblings of in-person industry events fast approaching. And compared to a year ago at this time, when uncertainty ruled the day, these feel like real rumblings that you can almost feel ’neath your feet (which possibly can’t even remember how the inside of a dress shoe feels). Many U.S. states are reopening to near full capacity, arms are being jabbed and herd immunity is, well, not stampeding in but strolling in. Like a bumbling, stumbling rumble.
To all of you Zoomed-out zombies: Let’s get ready to RUMMMMMMBLE!
P.S. Please help me welcome a new newsletter advertiser, the Manufacturing Solutions Center (MSC) at Catawba Valley Community College, Conover, N.C., by clicking on their ad on the left-hand side. As many of you know, this is one of our industry's greatest resources for testing, training, product development, technical assistance, R&D, business incubation and much more and, along with the Textile Technology Center at Gaston College, forms the Manufacturing Textile Innovation Network (MTIN.)

Part 6 of TS Designs’ supply chain journey through the Carolinas took place at the Industrial Commons/Opportunity Threads in Morganton, N.C., where the cut-and-sew arm of its brand partner’s 10,000 Pounds of Cotton initiative was featured.
During the web event, TS Designs founder and President Eric Henry introduced attendees of the web event to Molly Hemstreet, founder and co-executive director of The Industrial Commons, founder and worker/owner of Opportunity Threads and co-founder of the Carolina Textile District; along with Walter Vicente, plant manager at The Industrial Commons.

A gift to the West Virginia University (WVU) Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design will provide fashion, dress and merchandising students with enhanced educational opportunities in textile science.
To strengthen textile science and curriculum, Amy Bircher, a WVU alumna and international leader in the textile industry, donated more than $200,000 to establish a much-needed creative space for students. She is president & founder of MMI Textiles, Inc., Westlake, Ohio. The WVU Davis College hosted a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Amy A. Bircher Textiles Laboratory.
