Luther Events Happening This Week - Visit the Calendar of Events for a complete list of events happening this week.

Center Stage Series presents Catapult on Saturday, March 7, 7:30 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall. A finalist on America’s Got Talent, Catapult’s company of highly trained dancers tells imaginative, thrilling stories through shadow-illusion dance. Get your tickets at the ticket office or tickets.luther.edu . Tickets are FREE for students with CAF; general admission tickets are also available for students. 

The Great Paideia Owl Hunt - Are you a first-year scholar hard at work on your Paideia research paper? Use the library, follow a couple of clues, and you could discover one of many adorable plush owls (yours to keep!). Clues will be posted on the Preus Library  Facebook  and  Instagram

Are you planning to study abroad next year? Apply for the following two scholarship opportunities: The Olga Fischer-Proehl Scholarship provides $3,000 to a female International Studies major studying abroad and The Melin and Melin-Brownell Scholarships provide $7,500 each to two students studying abroad in Africa, with preference given to sub-Saharan Africa. Application forms can be picked up at the CGL. Application deadline March 9 th . Email Elizabeth Finanger ( finaeliz@luther.edu ) with questions.

Tour MIDDLE EARTH in January 2021 in the English 262 class about the roots of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis' fantasy in N. Ireland, England, and France. Catch the INFORMATION MEETING in Main 112 from 6-6:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 3.

Are you wild and adventurous at heart? Keep yourself and others safe in the backcountry by registering now for Wilderness First Aid March 14 - 15 at Luther College. This in-depth weekend training provides valuable skills and knowledge on how to handle most backcountry emergencies. Speed Friendshipping, Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m.  -  Interested in getting to know more people around campus? Spend some time trying to find your very own platonic spark and get to know your fellow Norse through speed friendshipping! Join Counseling and Wellness in Hovde Lounge, Preus Library. Luther College Peace Scholars Announced - Congratulations to juniors Kim Chham and Levi Bird, who have been selected to represent Luther College as Peace Scholars in Norway this summer. The Peace Scholar program provides funding for two students to study for a week at the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue in Lillehammer, followed by five weeks at the International Summer School at the University of Oslo.

SPRING CAREER FAIR, Thursday, March 5 .  Dahl Centennial Union. 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. OVER 40 organizations will be attending!! This is for all students and majors. If you are looking for an internship, full-time employment or a chance to network, you won't want to miss this opportunity. Some companies will be signing students up at this event for future interviews.  (Sponsored by the Career Center)

Erdman Prize Competition -  The Erdman Prize "Pitch-Off" is back for another exciting round of competition between student established businesses. Prizes are one $6,000 scholarship and two runner-up awards of $3,000, awarded to students of  any year or any major  who have demonstrated exceptional entrepreneurial skills during their student years at Luther College.   The application  and more information can be found  here .  Applications due before Monday, April 6th at 2:30pm. Paideia Texts and Issues Lecture March 10 - Anita Carrasco, Associate Professor of Anthropology, will present a lecture entitled “Culture As Resistance in the Chilean Andes: An Indigenous Community’s Fight for Their Rights and Recognition in the Face of Mining”   at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10 in the CFL Recital Hall. Carrasco's talk focuses on the Likantatay, an urban indigenous community in Calama, a mining town in the Atacama Desert. This is the final Paideia Texts and Issues Lecture of the 2019-20 series  Resistance and Resilience . A reception in Qualley Lounge will follow the lecture.

Chapel Schedule
Built into the class schedule and rhythm of life at Luther, chapel is a time for the community to gather for song, reflection and fellowship at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the CFL Recital Hall. Faculty, staff, students and guests serve as speakers, musicians and artists.

"Hope Over Hate" Distinguished Lectures, March 3 and 5 - On Tues., March 3 at 7 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall, Judy Shepard, author of "The Meaning of Matthew" and co-founder of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, will speak of losing her gay son to a hate crime in 1998, and the ways in which grief became action. On Thurs., March 5 at 7 p.m. in the CFL Recital Hall, Pedro Lopez Vega '17 will share his experience of the Postville ICE raid, and his triumph over trauma. "Hope Over Hate" lectures are sponsored by CEPE and Campus Programming.

Krahn Family Student Life Service Award ($1000 award) - Nominations for this award must be current Sophomore and Junior students who have demonstrated a strong contribution to campus life in a way that embraces the spirit and mission of Luther College. Any student, faculty, or staff member may nominate a student. This award is designed to recognize a student who makes a positive impact to student life. This $1,000 award is expected to be over and above any financial assistance a student receives. The nomination form can be found here: https://www.luther.edu/studentlife/awards/ . Nominations are due by March 20, 2020.
 
Kuh Family "Positively Luther" Award ($5000 award) - This award is given each year to a student whose character, leadership, and participation in co-curricular and other educationally purposeful activities enhance the quality of campus life. The recipient must be in good academic standing with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. This $5,000 award is expected to be over and above the financial aid package offered by the College. Application for the award can be found here: https://www.luther.edu/studentlife/awards/ . Applications are due March 20, 2020.

Latinx Panel - A panel of Luther College students and faculty who self-identify as Latinx will share their experiences in the Luther community. Panel members will discuss how we might cultivate a more inclusive campus climate and enhance student success in a time when Latinx college enrollments continue to increase. Everyone welcome with reception to follow. Thursday, Feb. 27, 7:30 p.m. CFL Recital Hall. Sponsored by Latines Unides and CEPE.

Luther will celebrate Ethnic Arts Festival on Saturday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Regents Center North Gym. The event is free and open to the public, and there will be food available for purchase. This year's festival will feature a presentation by William Quackenbush of the Ho-Chunk Nation at 12 p.m. Additional activities include a Culture Fair, student performances, henna hand art, hair braiding, and children's activities. We hope you will join us at this family-friendly event to celebrate the many cultures represented here at Luther. 

Music That Makes Community - From Feb. 27 to 29, Luther College Ministries will be hosting Music That Makes Community, a national non-profit group focused on community singing and song leading. MMC will lead the Luther College Chapel service at 10:30 a.m. Friday. From 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, in Shirley Baker Commons the public is invited to participate in song and a potluck. On Saturday, MMC will hold a one-day workshop for those interested in learning to improve their paperless and group song leading skills. Tuition costs will range from $35 to $100. Scholarships are available for students. Click  here  to register.
