PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT: TRAILS AND PATHWAYS
Delaware Greenways and Trails
Your donation to Delaware Greenways helps us to continue to advocate for the creation of trails that connect families and commuters to recreation and transportation.
Trail and Pathways:

You probably knew that Delaware Greenways’ greatest achievement is getting the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail built. It took a while and a lot of persistence, but we led the charge, working with New Castle County, DelDOT and more than 230 individuals and organizations to make this beloved trail a reality.

Beginning at Governor Printz Boulevard at Caulfield Mansion, passing through Bellevue and Alapocas State Parks, Rockwood Park and into the City of Wilmington along the Brandywine River, the much beloved trail is used by hundreds of bicyclists and walkers every day and many organizations use it for their programs and activities. For a detailed description of the trail, see

Fast forward to today. Delaware Greenways continues to build upon this success. Thanks to generous funding provided by the William Penn Foundation, Delaware Greenways build a 20-member coalition to advocate for new and improved trails in Northern Delaware. Working with our Coalition, we have developed interactive mapping showing the existing and future trails of our Major Trails Network. Our maps are living documents which we update to show new ideas for trails and the progress being made in bringing new trails on line.

Some of the trail projects we are working on are improvements to the East Coast Greenway between Claymont and Fox Point State Park, connecting Kennett Square, PA to Newark DE, showcasing the historical heritage of Hockessin and its role in the Brown v. Board of Education decision that integrated our nation’s schools, and assisting in the completion of the Markell Trail between Wilmington and New Castle.

We need your support to continue working on your beloved trails and expanding the trail network to more and more communities in Delaware. Please be generous in your support.
