THE OFFICIAL RULE BOOK

We were in a youth meeting in Fort Myers, Fl when I was sharing truths from the bible. A young man about 16 said “how do you know the Bible is true?” This was a great question.

He was into sports and was a baseball player. I responded with this, “When you are up to bat and there are five strikes and six balls on you and the pitcher throws the ball…”

He interrupted me, and said, “you can’t have five strikes and six balls in the game of baseball.”

I said, “Well in my rule book you can.” Then I said when you get to fifth base and the pitcher tries to call you out…”

He interrupted me again, and said, “There isn’t any fifth base.”

I said again, “Well in my rule book you have a fifth base.” He continued to ask as I continued to share.

Then I said, “How do you know your rule book is right and mine is wrong?”

He said, “Well, it is in the “official rule book.”

I said, “Oh, then your rules must be the right rules then if they come from the “official rule book.”

After this, I went on to explain that the Bible is God’s “rule book”, and that is the official book to go by for life. It became clear to him through this illustration that he understood this truth. Then I witnessed to him about salvation and he received the Lord that night as his Savior.

You see, there has to be an “official rule book” in order to know how to play the game for every sport, and the “official rule book” for life is the Word of God. It is where we go to see what is right, and what is wrong, but it has to be read to know how to “play the game.” The problem is many persons like this young man have never read the “rule book”, the Bible, but think they know what it says. Just like this young man knew baseball in and out because he had studied the “rule book”, every Christian must study the Bible to understand God’s “game plan” for your life.

We put some quizzes in our newsletters every day. It is a surprise to me how many do not know their bibles. (Yes, I see all of the answers). I am not trying to put anyone on the spot, but if you don’t know what’s in the Bible, you certainly will fail at the “game of life.”

When is the last time you picked up your bible and truly studied it? When is the last time you had a passion for it like you do for sports and games? With the end times at hand, it is a good idea to know the rules of the team you are playing on. After, all, it is the “official rule book” for life.

ABRAHAM – PART 31
THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, LESSON 1

In Genesis 22:1 it says that God “tempted” Abraham with a very specific instruction. It was a “test” of obedience. But we shall see that it was much more than that. It was a prophetic fore type of the offering up of Messiah.

God spoke to Abraham (Gen. 22:2) and said (NKJV), “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

Abraham saddled up along with Isaac, two of his men servants, and firewood and set out on the three-day journey to Mount Moriah. Upon approaching the place, he left back the two men. He and Isaac ascended the mountain carrying the wood, the fire, and the knife.

He made an altar, laid the wood on it, tied up Isaac, and laid the lad upon the wood. Isaac had earlier asked his father the where-a-bouts of the sacrificial lamb. Abraham said (Genesis 22:8), “My son, God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering.” Yet it had not happened, and here lies the boy on the wood with a knife in his father’s hand ready to slay him as an offering. One must wonder what ran through Isaac’s mind. The knife was already raised to strike.

Suddenly the angel of the LORD (YWHW) called out to not harm the lad. Abraham then saw a ram caught in a thicket and used that ram for the offering in place of his “only” son.

God called Isaac the “only” son because he was the only son of the promise. Ishmael, although older, was not the son or heir of the promise. Isaac qualified as Abraham’s “only begotten son” because he alone was to bring forth the line of the future Messiah, God’s “only begotten son.”

The angel of the LORD called a second time from out of heaven to Abraham and said (Gen 22:16-17) NKJV) “…because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son, blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven…”

Tomorrow we shall see how this lines up as a foreshadow of God’s “only begotten son”, Jesus.

EXHORTATION

The key words for you and I today are to fully...TRUST GOD. It’s a Biblically substantiated fact to say that we are indeed living in the last days. All one has to do is to look around them; Read the Bible, the morning newspaper and etc to know that we are living in much different times than ever before. 2 Timothy 3: 1 says: “Know this, that in the last days perilous times will come”. Therefore, we’d be foolish to go about our days acting as if nothing has changed; When all along we see the definite signs of the times being fulfilled on a daily basis. All that anyone would need to do is to read chapter 24 of Matthew to know of assurance that Jesus IS coming soon! With those facts in mind, we must all like never before determine in our hearts and minds to live our lives each day pleasing to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; And to be ready when The Trump of God sounds...And yes, I do believe we are just that close. I determined many years ago there was absolutely NOTHING worth me missing Heaven for. It’s a personal decision that we each must make for ourselves. It’s obvious we cannot change the evil going on in our nation; And neither can we change their choice to call evil good...And good evil. God’s Word says, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil”. (Isaiah 5:20a) Today we must make a firm decision to pray, to hold our peace and at times to hold our tongue, to take our hands off of everything and everybody...And simply TRUST GOD with it all and through it all. For He really does know right where you are and He will never fail you. Have a blessed day and look for opportunities to be a blessing to those you meet in this dark and confused world; For you never know what they too are walking through.
