President’s Message
By Michael Azzarello, CMB
President, MBA of Florida

Greetings –

I am honored and excited to serve as President of the MBA of Florida and will work hard with our executive team and directors to continue building on the successes of our past Presidents! For those who don’t l know me, I’ve been a Mortgage Banker my entire career since my first job out of college as an LO. I originated and managed originators the first half of my career and have been a correspondent investor working with mortgage lender clients since 1995. I have learned a lot over these many years and I continue to learn every day which leads to my theme this year… Embrace Your Opportunities !

How can we Embrace our Opportunities for continued personal and professional success? Let’s start with defining “Opportunity”. 1. A set of circumstances that make it possible to do something Positive and Favorable. 2. A chance for Employment or Promotion, Advancement or Progress. 3. Something you WANT to do to IMPROVE yourself!

Being active with the MBA of Florida can help you with your professional growth, so I encourage you to Embrace your Opportunities available through the MBAF. Leverage your Association(s) membership whether it be the MBAF, Local Chapters, MBA, Realtors, Builders, etc.

The MBA of Florida offers many Opportunities for professional growth including:

·        Legislative Advocacy with Eric Prutsman as our retained Lobbyist. State advocacy issues include on flood insurance, on-line notarization, disasters and recovery and the Sadowski Trust Fund to name a few. Please consider supporting MPAC so we can continue to have a voice in Tallahassee and join the MAA if not already member.
·        Networking Opportunities - Grow together - Share your knowledge and expertise – Mentor and be mentored. We have some talent and wisdom within our association to help each other grow so take advantage of those relationships!
·        Committee Participation: Membership, Eastern Secondary Marketing Conference, Annual Convention and Education Committee.
·        CMB Program – Information and Sponsorship assistance for interested members
·        MBAF Education opportunities available through our reactivated Education Committee, the Eastern Secondary Marketing Conference and annual MBAF Convention. Many other educational opportunities available to you and your colleagues include training with your own companies, MBA Education, MI companies and many other industry partners.

Education Committee

Finally, I want to mention our reactivated Education Committee under Tim Bazell, Chairman. Our goal is to offer high quality Loan Officer Sales Training Webinars to include social media, selling skills, recruiting for managers, secondary marketing and other training opportunities for our members. We will keep any training affordable but effective! Due to the footprint of Florida we feel webinars is the best approach to reach you sales team. The Education Committee as with all committees for the new year will begin recruiting for volunteers so expect information on that soon.

Learn something new every day and teach something new every day. I encourage you to Embrace your Opportunities for personal and professional growth!

Best wishes for a great year!

Powerful Speakers and Programs

Matthew Goldman, CLO, CRO thanks Robert D. Broeksmit, CMB President & Chief Executive Officer, MBA and Bill Cosgrove CMB, CEO and Owner, Union Home Mortgage, after just completing a great session.
We had 14 sessions over three days, with seven of those being panels and seven keynote/stand-alone speakers. That represented 26 speakers of high caliber professionals that took their time to provide us some valuable industry information.

Our speakers came from all over; Virginia, New York, Washington, DC, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, New Jersey, North Carolina, Colorado and California. This shows true dedication and we thank our speakers.

We can't do our events without our sponsors and special thanks to those that continue to support the MBA of Florida.

Committee Volunteers Needed
We need Committee Volunteers!

Our Committee Chairs are anxious to start the next adventure for the association and we are gearing up to get the committees in place. Please take a minute to review the committee options and sign up to volunteer.

All committee work is done via conference calls.

The Membership committee is very busy up until around December. All roads are leading to us having the 2020 Eastern Secondary Market Conference and Annual Convention, once again, back to back. (Waiting on the final evaluations to decide for sure.) These committees will have separate duties related to their specific event but will have their calls together so everyone is aware of all the activities going on throughout the event days. These committees will be very busy for several months outlining speakers/programs and securing exhibitors and sponsors. Fun event planning is also a factor! Communications committee helps get the important news out there! Legislative committee is mainly busy during session in Tallahassee, which convenes early this year on January 14, 2020 . The Future Leaders committee works to secure those interested in moving ahead in the industry and also learning more about the association. For the first time in many years we are bringing back our separate Education Committee, which will look at opportunities outside of the secondary/convention programs throughout the year, possibly have webinars, loan officer training, sales and marketing, etc.

This is a great opportunity for you as a member to interact with other members, get a chance to see how your association works, meet new friends and feel good about knowing you are a part of something important to your industry.

MBA Chart of the Week
provided by MBA, Washington
Source: PGR; MBA and STRATMOR Peer Group Roundtables; www.mba.org/pgr

Average monthly productivity for the retail production channel (excludes third-party and consumer direct originations) reached study-lows in 2018 for both retail loan officers and the non-producing employees directly supporting them. Moreover, starting in 2012, the average number of non-producing retail staff supporting loan officers surpassed the total number of retail loan officers, resulting in higher loan officer productivity relative to these support staff.
Monthly loan officer productivity is measured as the average number of mortgage closings in a given year divided by the number of full‐time equivalent (FTE) loan officers, divided by twelve. Non-producing Retail FTEs in the retail production channel include all fulfillment staff – processors, underwriters, closers and other fulfillment functions – as well as loan officer assistants, sales and marketing support, non-producing branch managers, and other Retail functions directly involved in originating a loan. Excluded from this FTE figure are other production support functions such as post-closing, secondary, production technology support and corporate overhead.
Sample includes data from a cross-section of 78 Retail mortgage lenders, including mid-size and large banks, and independent mortgage companies.
