You are invited to attend candidate presentations for the Cumberland County ANR Agent position on Monday July 22 and again on Monday July 29. All presentations will be held at the Cumberland County office of Rutgers Cooperative Extension,

. Due to travel and conference commitments of the candidates, the search committee decided to host them over 2 days. You are encouraged to attend all or as many sessions as your schedule permits. The schedule is as follows:
Monday July 22
11:00 am – 11:30 am Rodger Belisle, PhD
“From avocados to ornamentals: Using experience from applied research in CA to create a successful ANR program in Cumberland County, NJ”
Rodger is currently a Post-Doctoral scholar at the University of California Riverside, where he earned his PhD in Plant Pathology. He has applied research experience in commercially important tree crops in California focused on the management of
Phytophthora
diseases. Prior to graduate school, he has nine years of nursery management experience in ornamental horticulture with two nursery operations here in NJ. Rodger earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Ramapo College prior to his graduate studies at the University of California.
11:30 – 12 noon Vasile Cerven, PhD
“Sustainable Nursery Production: Research and Outreach”
Vasile is currently a Post-Doctoral scholar at Virginia State University focusing on specialty crop sustainability and productivity. Prior to this he served in similar capacities at Mississippi State and Texas A&M Universities. He earned his bachelor’s degree in soil science and master’s degree in agricultural chemistry from Moldova University, a second master’s degree in agriculture / horticulture from Mississippi State University, and a PhD in agricultural chemistry / plant nutrition from Moscow State University.
Monday July 29

“Effect of Plant Growth Regulators(PGRs) on Containerized Herbaceous Peonies”
Emily is currently a PhD Candidate (September, ’19) in horticulture with Virginia Tech. Her research has focused on the use of plant growth regulators in containerized floriculture nursery crops, vegetable seed germination, and woody ornamentals. Over the past 8 years as a graduate assistant, she has worked closely with Extension Specialists, assisted in Extension programming, and taught both on-campus classes and off-campus workshops. Emily holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from Inner Mongolia University of Science & Technology (Baotou, China) and a master’s degree in horticulture from Virginia Tech.
11:30 am – 12:00 noon Timothy Waller
“Recognizing Patterns in Biology to Increase Our Bottom Line”
Tim is currently a PhD Candidate (August ’19) in phytopathology under the advisement of Dr. Peter Oudemans of the Plant Biology Department at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. His research has focused on floral stimulation of blueberry and cranberry fruit rotting pathogens and baseline data on how pathogens synchronize to their hosts, with the hope of incorporating his finding into improved disease management strategies. Tim earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Rutgers University in Camden and has been with the P. E. Marucci Center for Blueberry and Cranberry Research and Extension since 2012.
