CLASSES THIS SUNDAY
Sunday School classes begin at 9:10 a.m. Child care is available for children five and younger in the nursery.
Elementary School Children
Each week, the class begins with music, followed by a lesson using the Godly Play approach.
The class is currently talking about the sacrament of baptism.
All high school youth who have been confirmed and adults are welcome to attend this class. Through November 10

the class is discussing the book
8 Habits of Love: Overcome Fear and Transform Your Life
. This Sunday, we will look at the Habit of Community. Even if you haven't read the book, you are welcome to join the class; we will be using a handout with the main points from the chapter.

SECOND TUESDAY WELCA MEETING AND BIBLE STUDY
November 12
Sharing in community at 10:30 a.m.; Bible study at 11:00 a.m.
In our third focus on God's creation, we shall look at new beginnings - new creations, as God continues in steadfast love with the earth and its inhabitants.
- Jeremiah 31:31-34 speaks of a New Covenant written on the heart.
- 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 declares that those "in Christ" see the world in a new way; it is a New Creation.
- Revelation 21:1- 5 envisions "a new heaven and new earth," "the new Jerusalem."
Join us to consider how this newness is with us now and again, as well as a future hope.

A COMMUNITY SERVICE OF HOPE & ASSURANCE
Good Shepherd will host a community Service of Hope and Assurance on Sunday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m.
The service, which is jointly sponsored by the Reimaging Health Collaborative and Worship and Music teams, will focus on providing quiet, uplifting accompaniment for those who may have difficulty facing the impending holiday season.
Longer winter nights and the upcoming holidays can amplify feelings of grief, loss, sadness, stress, and anxiety.
The gathering will be a time to acknowledge personal and community struggles and to receive hope, comfort, and strength from God and one another.
Refreshments and time for fellowship will follow the service

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The annual Congregational Meeting is scheduled for
Sunday, November 17, in the Fellowship Hall following the 10:30 service. Lunch will be provided by the Fellowship Committee. One of the items on the agenda will be voting on our revised constitution, which you can access
here.

CALL PROCESS UPDATE
The call committee is interviewing additional pastoral candidates as we seek to find our next pastor. Please continue to pray for God's guidance in our search. We thank each of you for your encouragement and prayers.

LCGS Choir members want to say a heartfelt "thank you!" for the lovely brunch we had between the services this past Sunday. We truly appreciated the special treatment we received and the opportunity to relax and enjoy delicious food and fellowship before the 10:30 service started. It's amazing how ravenous singing can make a person! A special thanks to Sandy Ostermeier for leading the effort, the Fellowship Committee members who supported setup and cleanup, and everyone who contributed wonderful food for the meal. Lisa Rodke's brother, Tom
, is in critical condition in an El Paso hospital. Lisa traveled to Texas to be with him.
Nora Johnson is inpatient at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System after a recent surgery in Hendersonville.
Rita Black is recovering at home following surgery at Mission Hospital last week.
Ben Karas was hospitalized for a blood infection last weekend and is recovering at home.
Jean Rumph's brother, Rev. Dr. Edwin Stock, died last weekend at Duke Hospital.
Deb Kelly Greene's brother-in-law,
George Chappell, was hospitalized at Mission last weekend.
Carol Barrett's sister-in-law, Gale Misiora, is doing better after treatment for cancer.
Ginny and Bob Landwehr's son, Doug Landwehr, has been hospitalized and is being evaluated for a heart condition.
Marilyn Carlson's cousin, Margaret Irish, passed away last weekend.
Marilyn's Carlson's friend, Linda Froelich, passed away last weekend.
Marilyn Carlson's friend, Melissa Oppermann, is suffering from severe spinal problems and is most likely facing surgery in early December.

MISSION PARTNER MEETING AND COLLECTION
FOR LIVING WATERS
On
Wednesday, November 13
, a group from Good Shepherd will be in Cherokee for a meeting of mission partners of the Living Waters Lutheran Church. We look forward to this meeting as we continue to develop a relationship with sisters and brothers of Living Waters, and other congregations in the NC Synod and beyond who serve as mission partners.
We would like to take some much needed items for the Food Pantry at Living Waters with us. Lisa Russell, Coordinator of the Food Pantry, says that the two most needed items at this time are toilet paper and dish soap (which is used for dishes, laundry and personal hygiene). If you would like to donate either or both of these items,
please bring them to Good Shepherd by Sunday, November 10, and place them in the labeled bins under the mailboxes.
These donations are one small way that we accompany the Living Waters congregation in their ministry to their community.

NEWS FROM LIVING WATERS
Here is the November newsletter from our friends at Living Waters Lutheran Church in Cherokee. As you will see, Living Waters is a lively place of ministry!
Living Waters needs a few items for their food pantry: patio umbrellas, patio umbrella stands, and a garden/utility wagon. If you have any of these items to donate, please contact Kimberly Dunbar, Outreach Ministry Coordinator (883-3680 or
[email protected]). Also, on page five, there is an idea for a reverse Advent calendar you might want to try.

SHIPMENT FOR LWR ON ITS WAY
Good Shepherd's shipment for Lutheran World Relief (31 quilts, 65 personal care kits and four school kits) has begun its journey. Dave Kuhlman and Sue Barrett delivered the boxes to Grace Lutheran in Hendersonville on November 6. From there, they will go to a site in
Hickory and then on to an international shipping center in New Windsor, MD.
There they will join other shipments from all over the United States and will be sorted to send to LWR centers throughout the world, ready for emergency needs when tragedy strikes.

SNACKS FOR GETTING AHEAD ON DECEMBER 4
Sharing House needs snacks and drinks for their Getting Ahead class on
December 4.
The class is comprised of 17 people and meets from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Brevard Wesleyan Church.

Do These Classes Make a Difference?
You may have wondered what difference these Getting Ahead classes actually can make in someone's life. Many of the participants of the journaling and discussion small group that Kimberly has been offering at Sharing House are Getting Ahead graduates, and they've mentioned how helpful the Getting Ahead series was for them and how they appreciated the snacks. Providing refreshments may not seem like a worthwhile thing to do, but it is a meaningful and tangible way to accompany others.

PACK THE PANTRY FOR SHARING HOUSE!
Sharing House will hold a Pack the Pantry event on Saturday, November 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You can drop off food and monetary donations at the Courthouse Gazebo that day. Volunteers will also be at local grocery stores to accept donations.

CELEBRATION OF DIVERSITY: SHARING OUR ROOTS
On Tuesday, November 12 at 6:00 p.m., all are invited to Ingram Auditorium at Brevard College for a celebration of diversity in our community. Music, readings and finger foods from around the globe will be offered.

COMMUNITY GATHERING AT ST. PHILIP'S LABYRINTH
All are invited to gather on
Thursday, November 14
, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m., at the outdoor labyrinth behind St. Philip's Episcopal Church (256 E. Main Street, Brevard).
The Rev. Thomas Murphy, Rector of St. Philip's, and Susan Lefler will share reflections.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by gun violence or simply in need of a space for reflection, the newly constructed St. Philip's labyrinth is an outdoor healing space open to the public. This gathering will be a follow-up to our October Peace Tree Art Project -- a coming together with neighbors to affirm our care for each other and resolve to end gun violence.

SEEKING 3/4 -1 ACRE WOODLOT
STEP WNC is a non-profit organization that works to provide free home repairs to low income, elderly and/or disabled homeowners in Transylvania, Henderson and Jackson counties. We also have a firewood ministry for home heat. Currently, STEP is seeking a 3/4 acre - 1 acre woodlot to store and process firewood that is accessible by pick-up trucks. STEP WNC is fully insured, and the lot would only be accessed by qualified volunteers of the organization. If you or anyone you know has a lot for rent, contact Carolyn Smith at

The Haven will host an
Open House on
Saturday, November 23
, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., featuring live music with Cody and Jonlyn Siniard and Barrett Davis. All are welcome to stop by!
Currently, The Haven is in desperate need of volunteers, specifically overnight volunteers (8:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.), but also daytime volunteers (4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.). Volunteers fill out paperwork and then shadow another volunteer before being given their own shift.
