A Message from Head of School, Dan Quesnel

Dear Oakwood Community,

I hope this email finds you doing well.  We are now a week into the new school year, and what a fantastic week it was.   The First Day Assembly was a terrific opportunity to honor our seniors and welcome all of our students and Oakwood families back to campus.   At the assembly, we continued the tradition we started last year by announcing this year's spring theatrical performance A Midsummer Night's Dream!   The Fine Arts Department is putting a new twist on this Shakespeare classic though by setting it in the 1920s and adding elements of music and dance to it.

On Saturday, there was a great turnout for the PSA's Back-to-School Kickoff as we celebrated our students and the new school year with food, music, a mechanical bull, and a petting zoo.   I was feeling pretty proud of how long I stayed on the bull until the ride operator told me at the end that he had it set on "kiddie" speed. While it was difficult to count how many people were in attendance because of all the activities around campus, I can confirm that over 350 people obtained wrist bands to ride the mechanical bull and pet the animals from It's A Zoo Life.   Thanks go out to the PSA and the countless other volunteers who made this event such a success.

Yesterday there was excitement in the Lower and Middle Schools as classes in those divisions adopted their seniors for the year.  This is just one of the many great traditions I have come to know and love at Oakwood.

Lastly, Grandparents and Special Friends' Day will be held Friday, October 4. The school will not be mailing post cards this year. Instead cards were sent home with your LS and MS child last week for parents to invite their child's grandparent(s) or special friend. If you need additional post cards, Ms. Christine has extras in the Main Office.

As we head into the second half of the week, please remember that we have a half day on Friday in light of the long weekend ahead.   I hope you all have fun plans for Labor Day Weekend.

Go Eagles!
Dan Quesnel
