This time of year can be an emotional roller coaster as we pack our kids off to school or daycare. One moment, we might be relieved to be back to a routine and the next we miss the freedom of unscheduled summer days or feel the stress of the added expense of school supplies. At the same time, our kids may feel anxious about their new teacher while at the same time eager to meet new school friends.
We hope it gets off to a great start!

Bridging Communities and Schools
Family Resource Centers (FRCs) help families connect to community resources, provide basic needs supplies (like food, clothing, and diapers), help families get ready for the transition to kindergarten, and provide programming like story times, science nights, and parenting education.
“The goal of our FRC is to support parents, caregivers and their children in a non-judging environment where everyone is welcome, no income requirement to attend, all activities are at no charge. Come join for some fun!”
Peggy’s Primary Connection provides early learning programs, resources and referral, parenting classes, a lending library, age appropriate activities for children 0 to 6, and after school support for all ages. Parenting support is ongoing, on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school year.
There are twelve FRCs housed within school districts throughout Lane County.
Visit your school district's FRC and find out more about the great programs and services they offer!

The Pigeon HAS to Go to School!
|
My new favorite "back to school" book is written and illustrated by Mo Willems and features everyone's favorite, Pigeon:
The Pigeon HAS to Go to School!
Told in word bubbles and thru great illustration, readers explore Pigeon's ideas of why going to school might be scary, including math, the alphabet, heavy backpacks and fitting in. This book provides a great opportunity for caregivers to talk about our fears and share the excitement of new experiences. Oh, and did I mention there is a bus?

Science Corner
Playing is one of the most important things your child can do because it contributes to their cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being.
Play also offers a way for you to engage fully in a positive and fun way with your child.
Take time every day to play pretend, play outside, do crafts, build block towers,
or dance and sing with your child.
