A Look Ahead
We are thrilled to share with you the newly-approved RMBA strategic plan, the first in many years. This plan was a result of meetings with board members, parents, students, and faculty and staff. This plan was approved by the board last night and will set our course through the 2023-2024 school year. Please find the time to look at the
flip book
that enumerates the strategies we will be using to implement this plan; internally we also have a responsible party affiliated with each strategy as well as a time frame, resources we w
ill use, accountability/measurable results, and next steps. T
here will be copies available for you to peruse in person in the main office.
Please note that while these are our agreed-upon priorities, we will also certainly be doing additional work beyond this strategic plan to continue making RMBA the amazing school that it is.
As ever, we thank you for your partnership in making RMBA the best school we can possibly be!

American Identity
Eighth-graders studying U.S. History began their second week of school by deconstructing and reconstructing components of American identity. The students were challenged to create "Portraits of an American," composed of three separate photographs they made of different students and staff at RMBA. The three photos were cropped into upper-, mid- and lower-sections of one's body, then interchanged with other sets to form composite portraits of American identity. Along with making photographs, the eighth-graders were required to interview their subjects and record their answers to the following questions: What qualities are important to American identity? What does an American look like? And, what makes an American feel American?

Apples, Airplanes, Animals oh my!
Morah Aviva's ECE4 class began their Alphabet this week with the Letter "Aa"! The class came up with "Aa" words for their word wall, decorated the letters with apples, and then even attempted to write "Apples" on the bottom of the paper! As part of their All About Me unit, the students are making their own books. After stamping their fingers in colored ink pads, the children observed their fingerprints with a magnifying glass and noticed that nobody's fingerprints are alike, and we are all unique!

Around the World
Seventh-graders in Mr. Duke's class made a creative start to the new school year, looking for intersections between world geography and art. Their first project challenged students to learn about the ancient tradition of mandala-making, while also learning how to quill (that is, a paper filigree art form utilizing strips of colorful paper that are rolled, shaped, and fixed together to create designs). The mandala will serve as practice for a more challenging assignment. Each student is assigned a continent and will quill a large political map, color-coded by country. These maps will then be stitched together and displayed in a gallery at RMBA. Meanwhile, seventh-graders have enthusiastically accepted the challenge to learn the national flags of 195 different countries. The students have already practiced countries that begin with the letters A and B. After they finish with Z, they will host an Around the World Flag competition in the format of a spelling bee.
