MILLENNIUM'S QUARTERLY NEWS
New Single Stream Flat Fee Starts January 2020
In an effort to simplify Millennium's fee structure and address the challenges of the persisting low markets, we have adjusted our clean single stream (SS) rate to one, flat rate per ton that will take effect in January 2020. If you have any questions on the new rate, please contact us.

We are proud to say that even after this adjustment, our rates are very low in comparison to other single stream facilities in our region and around the country. We work diligently to operate our facility as efficiently and cost effectively as possible and truly value the partnerships we have with our customers and end-users. We are pleased to continue offering recycling as a service to the great communities we serve.

Regular education is critical to increase participation and reduce contamination. We will continue to enforce contamination fees in accordance with our Policy, Procedure, and Material Specifications (PPMS) to help keep trash and hazardous materials out of our facility and encourage consistent education. We offer various ways to help educate your staff and/or your customers through waste audits and other educational outreach programs. If you are interested in any of these services, please let us know.

Our goal as a service provider is to (1) divert materials from the landfill, (2) be as economically and environmentally responsible as possible, and (3) to provide a stable and consistent service to all customers and communities we serve. Thank you for working with us as we move forward and continue accomplishing these goals together.

We'd like to thank all of the waste haulers who joined us in partnering with The Butterfly House & Aquarium on the #BYOBSF campaign!

As a thank you for your participation, we matched your individual sponsorships to the campaign to help encourage more people to use reusable bags and reduce the need for plastic bags in our community.

We believe this project will only continue to grow as more organizations get involved! Thank you for your support!

If you would like to join the effort or learn more, find information at www.BYOBSF.org

We've been receiving quite a few questions from residents asking how to avoid bagging their recyclables. To help, we made an educational video to share.

Help us keep plastic bags out of the single stream by encouraging your customers to put items loose in the bin. Check out the video here.
The City of Sioux Falls has launched their public educational campaign with tools for waste haulers and other organizations to use.

We have verified that all of the categories they include are acceptable in Millennium's single stream program, however there are a few items to note that may cause confusion after they have been distributed. We wanted to clarify those for you in case you receive any questions from your customers:

  1. Squirt Bottle Photo- Squirt Bottle Lids are NOT accepted in the single stream bin. They should be removed before recycling. See more info on lids here.
  2. Paper Bag Photo- Handles on paper bags should be removed before recycling. The string handles can jam in the recycling equipment.

  • On the Website:
  • Light Bulb Photo - Light bulbs are NOT accepted in the single stream bin.
  • Egg Carton Photo - Styrofoam is NOT accepted in the single stream bin, only paper egg cartons are allowed.
  • Disposal Guide Search Tool - We are currently working with the City to ensure all of the "Recycle Bin" items are correct. There are a few that are pending updates but should be corrected soon.

If you have any other questions after reviewing the City's new educational resources, please just let us know and we'd be happy to clarify!
