OLLI's 'Night at the Movies' Trivia Event a Success

Last Friday night's fundraiser was a spectacular success, raising thousands for OLLI programs while more than 200 participants and volunteers enjoyed an evening of trivia, laughter, and yes, some algebra!

The 22 teams got into the spirit of the "A Night at the Movies" theme, dressing up as beloved movie characters and decorating tables with incredible details.

The Dashers held their title as top scoring team for the third consecutive year, while newcomers Field of Dreams earned two prizes - lowest score AND a tie for "Set Design" (table decoration).  The Minions also tied for best Set Design, and Heigh Ho nabbed the prize for Best Costumes.

The team Fifty Shades of Gray Hair inspired staff to add a third creative award in 2020 for best team name.

OLLI thanks all of the participants, volunteers, and staff who made the night such a success.  We especially thank Greg Batton and Dan DiOrio for hosting the event and making us laugh throughout the evening.

Special thanks to our Contributing Sponsor, AARP Illinois, and our Supporting Sponsors:   Heartis Senior Living, Menold Construction and Restoration, and The Kwon Gallup Group at Morgan Stanley.

We will announce the total amount raised at our September 18 Fall Kick-Off Luncheon.  Thank you again for your support of OLLI!

Join OLLI to Get Off the Ground with Drone Photography

Wondering how to get off the ground with drone photography?  Or even without photography?

Join this OLLI study group to get the basics of flying a drone, how to fly by the rules, learn the basics of aerial photography and videography, and get some flight time/practice with an FAA-certified small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) pilot.

You'll capture some images and we'll provide a little constructive criticism along the way.  Participants should already own a drone, particularly one capable of photography, and consider themselves as new to this very trendy hobby.  Internet and email access is required for this group.

OLLI Office Transitions to Reminder Emails

In the past, OLLI trip participants have received a courtesy reminder call the day before going on a learning trip.

In an effort to better communicate the information, the Continuing Education office will now send reminder emails approximately two days before the event f or which you are registered.

Trip itineraries will still be mailed at the beginning of each season with your receipt.  Please keep them, as they have information and specific details about each particular trip.

Reminder emails will be sent instead of telephone calls for all trips and events  starting next week.

For more information, please contact our office at (309) 677-3900.

City of Peoria Needs Your Ideas for 2020 Budget

Each year the Peoria City Council makes spending decisions on critical services like public safety, infrastructure, and the quality of life in Peoria's neighborhoods.  They also determine how to pay for it.
The current challenge before the City Council is a $2.0 million budget deficit for 2020.   This year, the City has two online platforms to provide input for the budget process.
  1. Please visit peoria.budgetchallenge.org to take an online survey that allocates funds within each priority area for Peoria.

  2. Do you have ideas that would address key challenges the City faces?   You can submit them as "campaigns" or you can support "campaigns" created by others and comment on why they are important to you.  Visit peoriastrategicplan.com.

If you'd prefer, you can always email  [email protected] with your questions, concerns, or ideas.
