Great Jewish Books: Megillah Kohelet
with Rabbi Leila Gal Berner
Part 2 of 2 at 1:00 PM in the Library
Join the Adat Shalom Jewish Studies Committee for the Great Jewish Books Initiative. We will be reading and studying the five Megillot, or books that follow the Jewish calendar’s festivals. Beginning with Sukkot (Kohelet/Ecclesiastes), we'll take a deep
dive into the rich texts that accompany each festival.
This learning is accessible for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Young Families Sillies in the Sukkah at 4:00 PM
Enjoy pumpkin painting, sukkah making, fall planting, special guests and new friends. We’ll have lots of activities and games to keep everyone busy until 5:30, when we join the Adat Shalom community to welcome the festival of Sukkot, followed by pizza for young families! RSVP to

Erev Sukkot Celebration and Potluck Dinner at
5:30 PM
Welcome the festival of fall rejoicing! Join with Adat Shalom friends and clergy to lift the lulav and etrog and celebrate the bounty on our plates and in our lives. Bring a main or side dish to share. Gather in the sukkah for musical prayers, festival candle-lighting and the beloved tradition of 'ushpizin', invoking the memory of loved ones and leaders of the past to guide us forward.

Jewish Soul Music - Workshop & Jam Session featuring Zach and Aaron Mayer at 3:00PM
Calling all musicians - violins, ukuleles, didgeridoos and everyone else — join special guest artists Zach and Aaron Mayer, our own Jeff Toretsky and Mrs. Toretsky’s Nightmare (our klezmer band!) to learn and play Jewish tunes from the shtetl to Spotify. Beloved Jewish melodies as you’ve never heard them before. Hone your musical chops and make new friends. Then stay for our potluck dinner and make music with our Simchat Torah service and celebration. All ages welcome - free and open to the public - advance registration needed!

Simchat Torah and Shemini Atzeret Festival Service, with HaKafot, Hallel, and Yizkor
This service closes the holiday season with final words from Deuteronomy to begin a new in Genesis. Once a year we honor a senior figure in our community, ushering them in with pomp and style for the final aliyah of the Torah. This year, our
Chatan Torah honoree is Norm Gelman
(pictured) -- Norm will share a brief d'var Torah along with his aliyah - mazal tov!

Social Action - Kans for Kol Nidre extends into Harvest Against Hunger
|
|
Join us in a Manna competition from Kol Nidre night through Sh’mini Atzeret, October 8 through October 22. Our “Harvest Against Hunger” competition challenges congregations to compete with one another and increase our seasonal food contribution to Manna by at least 10%
To borrow from a different season, “let all who are hungry come and eat".
