The Children's Trust Announces
Last Days for Family Expo Volunteer Sign Ups!
The Family Expo is looking for volunteers to lend a hand! Taking place on Saturday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition Center, the FREE event attracts hundreds of child and family services exhibitors sharing vital information with approximately 15,000 visitors. The day is also marked by a slew of fun activities for kids, including interactive games, a robotics room, live musical performances, face painters, and arts and crafts, to name just a few.
 
As a volunteer, you'll have a great time at the event; receive complimentary lunch, refreshments and snacks, and tee shirt; and log in community service hours (if needed). Click here to register; we look forward to seeing you there!
First TRIM Hearing Coming Sept. 9
The Children’s Trust will be holding its first TRIM hearing to tentatively adopt its millage rate and budget for 2019-2020; a public hearing to tentatively adopt the taxes and budget will be held on Monday, September 9, 5:01 p.m., at the United Way Ansin Building, Ryder Room, 3250 SW 3rd Avenue, Miami, FL 33129.

Provider Power! Quarterly Meeting on Sept. 19
Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 19, as The Children's Trust will host its quarterly Provider Meeting with a general session for all Trust-funded providers from 10 a.m. to noon. After lunch, breakout sessions for providers in the areas of Youth Development K-12, Parenting/Family Strengthening and Partnerships will take place from 1-3 p.m.

The Provider Meeting will take place at the University of Miami's Donna E. Shalala Student Center - Grand Ballroom, where the theme of meeting will be "A Culture of Learning and Racial Equity." Please ensure that all staff members who are essential to our partnership attend; this includes executive directors/CEOs for the morning session, along with the individuals who manage your programs.
YAS Providers Without DCF Licenses Will Not Get Paid!
Attention YAS Providers: Effective August 1, 2019, The Children's Trust will NOT reimburse for direct service costs occurred at any sites without an active DCF license. Please read carefully the non-payment policy and related form posted on our website. Once on the Financial Page, click "Payments & Advances" and then "Policy" and "Form" under Non-Payment of Direct Services for Non-Compliance with Florida Department of Children and Families New!
Get the Inside Scoop on Grants and Grantmakers
To win grants, you need the most up-to-date, complete information you can get about grantmakers and the grants they've made. How can you get that? Only from the comprehensive database and powerful search tools of Foundation Directory Online (FDO). Trust-Funded Providers MUST UPDATE Staff Positions on Trust Central
In August, the website used to register for all training events and to take online courses will change. This change will affect ALL Trust-funded providers.
You must take action to have your past and future training count toward metrics requirements.

With this change, in addition to the great training classes and online courses currently offered by The Children’s Trust and our partners, staff of Trust-funded programs will have access to a FREE catalog of hundreds of online courses in the areas of child/youth care, professional development, and safety practices. The first step is for your Trust Central Agency Admin to include staff information in Trust Central. All staff whose position is partially or fully funded through a Trust contract and required to take training must be included in Trust Central.

Advocacy Network on Disabilities: Save the Date for Inclusion Kick-Off
Kick-start the school year acquiring the skills to offer inclusive programming with The Advocacy Network on Disabilities. On September 21, the Annual Inclusion Kick-Off at Miami Light House for the Blind will take place. Come meet your Inclusion Specialist, participate in the most requested trainings, and learn more about how the Inclusion Readiness Tool can increase inclusion in your programming. Stay tuned for more information.

Navigating Community Resources Training
On Friday, September 20, from 1-3 p.m. the Advocacy Network on Disabilities is hosting a Navigating Community Resources training that introduces participants to the most commonly needed resources for children and youth with disabilities and the agencies and systems in which they reside. Upon successful completion, those attending will have the tools necessary to direct families to helpful resources, and to advise them on how to navigate the systems of care in which these resources are found. The target audience includes Youth Development program staff, Service Partnership Care Coordinators, and Parent Educators. The training will be held at the West Kendall Regional Library, 10201 Hammocks Boulevard, Suite 159, Miami, FL 33196.

Online Trainings

  • Discovering Inclusion For new staff, and/or those with little or no previous knowledge about youth with disabilities. This workshop introduces various types of disabilities, identifies the characteristics and benefits of an inclusive program, and provides information on using People First Language and respectful etiquette.
  • Introduction to Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) - Part 1: What is Autism Spectrum Disorder? Learn how to help children meet behavioral expectations, recognize and accommodate those with sensory sensitivities, foster social competence, address bullying, and ensure a safe environment.
  • Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder - Part 2: An interactive, experiential opportunity to develop visual schedules, practice American Sign Language, and create and tell Social Stories. Learn how to create a sensory friendly environment, keep children safe, and use literature to foster acceptance and understanding. Monday, September 9, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Arcola Lakes Branch Library, 8240 NW 7 Avenue, Miami.

The Jose Milton Foundation Recording Studio @ Miami Arts Studio is now open to any school-aged child residing in Miami-Dade County.

Free Rides for Summer Camp and After School Providers to State Parks!
If we want our children to value and protect Florida State Parks in the future, then we better make sure they know what those parks look like, feel like and mean to our world today. That's what the Florida State Parks Foundation is helping to do with its " Yellow Buses in the Parks" program which provides FREE after school/summer camp providers the funds needed to pay for field trip transportation costs to Florida State Parks, provided there is an educational component to the trip.

The Greater Miami Youth Symphony seeks a dynamic chief executive. Established in 1958 , GMYS serves over 700 children, ages 5-18, with 8 ensembles, beginning instrument instruction and summer camps. Early Childhood Specialist (ECS) *
RCMA seeks an ECS with knowledge and experience in early childhood development and curriculum. The position will be part of the leadership team and will assist in the development and management of early childhood services to fulfill the mission of the RCMA. The ECS' focus is on staff development, ensuring compliance with funding sources for education and staff qualifications. Assistant Manager for Vision Solution *
Miami Lighthouse for the Blind seeks a bilingual (English and Spanish) Medical Office Receptionist to handle office duties in the Low Vision Center, such as scheduling and coordinating appointments, initial intake paperwork, input information into the database, assist clients in store, and perform clerical duties. A high school diploma is required, with an associate degree preferred; one year of experience working in a medical office.

External Relations Coordinator *
The organization is also in search of an experienced Event Coordinator to assist us in preparation for Miami Lighthouse for the Blind's 90th Anniversary. The External Relations Coordinator will be responsible for special events and marketing efforts to promote the programs, events and services of the organization. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field; related experience preferred.

Children Service Program Coordinator *
The position will be responsible for providing organizational support and assistance to the Manager of Children’s Services.
