TOBACCO-FREE FOR STUDENTS: PARTNERSHIP TO DONATE SIGNAGE TO NEWLY TOBACCO-FREE SCHOOL DISTRICTS
Kentucky school districts that adopt tobacco-free campus policies under a new 2019 law are eligible for free tobacco-free campus and vehicle signage, thanks to a partnership among the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky (FHKy), the Kentucky Medical Association (KMA) and the Kentucky Foundation for Medical Care (KFMC). The groups say their "Tobacco Free for Students" program will cover the chief cost of implementing the new law and significantly help improve community compliance.

TEENS AND E-CIGS IN KENTUCKY: FOUR NEW PSAS FEATURE KENTUCKY YOUTH SHARING DANGERS OF E-CIGS FOR KIDS, YOUNG ADULTS
Four new public service announcements featuring Kentucky youth sharing the dangers of using e-cigarettes while young are being released today as part of the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky's "I Just Didn't Know" peer education campaign. The new PSAs include two 30-second videos for television and a 30-second and 60-second audio PSA for radio.

Medical Marijuana Fact and Fiction: Practical Public Health Policy Considerations for Kentucky

The 2019 Howard L. Bost Memorial Health Policy Forum will elevate the public health voice in medical cannabis policymaking discussions in Kentucky. Medical marijuana is legal in 34 states and the District of Columbia, and public support is growing, yet most policy makers have relatively little experience with cannabis. There also remain gaps in research about the health impacts of marijuana and hemp products. The one-day forum will bring together a broad array of experts, advocates and stakeholders to discuss how best to promote the health, wellbeing and safety of Kentuckians as lawmakers consider new policies around medical cannabis in the Commonwealth.

DrugFreeLex and the Tobacco Committee recently released three striking public service announcements (PSAs) on JUUL. These face-paced, fact-based PSAs, designed to target parents, teachers, administrators and other working with youth, are free for all to use. Each video includes facts about JUUL and other e-cigarettes. These short ads provide insight into the chemicals in JUUL and their harmful effects, the rising popularity of JUUL, why youth may be more susceptible to e-cigarette use and addiction, and why e-cigarettes are especially damaging for teens including negative health costs and long-term adverse health effects.

Stanford Tobacco Prevention Toolkit Training
The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department Tobacco Program will host training sessions for the Stanford University School of Medicine Youth Tobacco Prevention Toolkit during March 2019. The "Toolkit" is a nationally recognized, evidence-based curriculum. It is more comprehensive than typical tobacco prevention curricula because it includes content designed to improve general adolescent health vs. focusing only on tobacco. It is free to use, and contains seven modules with ready-made activities, PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and worksheets.
This training is free, and Kentucky educators, adult stakeholders, and anyone interested in youth tobacco prevention are invited to attend. See below for more information about the training, and learn more about the "Toolkit" at https://med.stanford.edu/tobaccopreventiontoolkit.html

Campaign to Reduce Stigma of Addiction Grants
Interact for Health and its partners in the Funders' Response to the Heroin Epidemic have developed a regional messaging campaign to address the stigma surrounding addiction. Applications are sought from organizations interested in participating in the second round of the campaign.

Innovation to Reduce Tobacco Disparities Grant
Interact for Health is seeking proposals that support the planning and implementation of community-led pilot projects focused on reducing tobacco disparities for low-income adults, rural communities and African American adults. While initial funding will focus on planning efforts and smaller-scale pilot projects, Interact for Health intends to expand successful projects in the future. Applicants may apply for planning or implementation of a project. These funds are not intended for youth prevention or policy efforts. Public or private nonprofits and governmental organizations that provide services in at least one county of Interact for Health's 20-county service area are welcome to apply.
Grant amount: $25,000 to $75,000

Evidence-Based Tobacco Policy Change Grant
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation seeks to support and engage black community members, persons of lower socioeconomic status, and rural residents in the South and Midwest in order to increase their ability to advocate for stronger, locally or regionally driven tobacco-control and prevention policies and practices.
To support Interact for Health's strategic priority of reducing tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke among low-income adults and youth in Greater Cincinnati, we are seeking grant applications from our 20-county service area to increase the number of people in our region covered by evidence-based tobacco policies. This funding is intended to support evidence-based tobacco policy change efforts at the community level through developing tobacco control coalitions, strengthening existing tobacco control coalitions, community education, building advocacy capacity to work on policy change, and best-practice policy implementation and enforcement strategies. Interact has prioritized the following evidence-based tobacco policies for this RFP:
- Increasing the minimum legal age of sale for tobacco products
- Creating smoke-free workplaces
Grant amount: up to $100,000
