Yale Alumnus Pledges $5 Million for Yale School of Public Health Fund and Professorship to Advance LGBTQ Mental Health  Yale School of Medicine alumnus and gay rights activist David Kessler MED '55 recently pledged $5 million to support LGBTQ research at the Yale School of Public Health. Kessler's donation is intended to create a professorship in public health and support the work of YSPH Associate Professor John Pachankis, Ph.D., and his Esteem Research Group which is dedicated to addressing the depression, anxiety and substance use problems that disproportionately affect the LGBTQ community and can erode healthy relationships and behaviors. Pachankis, Director of CIRA's Community Research and Implementation Core, is a clinical psychologist internationally known for his development of novel psychosocial interventions to improve LGBTQ individuals' mental health.

Research Snapshot Series  CIRA's Research Snapshot series features one page summaries of completed, peer reviewed and published studies conducted by our affiliated scientists. The summaries describe the reason for the study, the key findings, and implications for practice and policy, presented in plain language. Each of the briefs also include a link to a published article in a peer reviewed journal that derives from the featured study.

FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Yale AIDS Prevention Training Program (Y-APT) and Research Education Institute for Diverse Scholars (REIDS)  CIRA has 2 fellowship programs seeking new applicants. Each program pairs fellows with a mentor from among the top HIV researchers at CIRA for a 2-year period. Review of applications will begin after the new year.
