Sport History: Fun Facts from the USHJA Wheeler Museum
It All Starts with a Pony

International grand prix star Margie Goldstein Engle has been winning since her early days riding ponies. Here’s a look back to Margie at 12 years old on Gladewind's March Lad in 1970. “Laddie” was the first pony Margie broke and trained. Not only did they have years of success together in the show ring, including year-end high-point Large Pony Hunter in Florida, but Margie taught Laddie to free lunge at a walk, trot, and canter on voice commands. His talents also included untying shoes and taking off Margie's sunglasses. For more on Margie’s career, check out No Hurdle Too High: The Story of Show Jumper Margie Goldstein Engle by Mona Pastroff Goldstein (Margie’s mom).
