Boys Cross Country
On Sunday, November 15, the Homestead Boys Varsity Cross Country team competed as the Mequon-Thiensville Highlanders in a multi-state event, hosted by Nike. The Nike Cross Regionals – Heartland Championship included only the top 22 teams from 7 states. Our Highlanders took an impressive THIRD PLACE!

Team members Dominic Silhol, Owen Bosley, Kyle Knutson, Cullen Boyle, Connor Rathe, Nathan Gruenwald and Adam Dolan ran in this ultra-competitive event held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This is the first team from Mequon-Thiensville to ever qualify to compete in this event.

Way to go Mighty Highlanders!
Football
They did it again! The Homestead Highlander Football team is headed back to STATE!

The Homestead Football team faced Kettle Moraine in Level 4 on Friday night at Arrowhead Stadium and showed once again how resilient they are as a team.

Kettle Moraine got things started by jumping out to a first quarter lead 7-0. Later in the second quarter Joe Ollman and the offense took the lead back after a 29 yard run and two point conversion made the score 8-7 Homestead.

Kettle Moraine added a field goal to make the score 10-8 at halftime. Which was a situation the Highlanders have faced in level 1 and 2 this playoff run, being down at halftime. Coach Zortman kept the team on the field at halftime while Kettle Moraine went inside to warm up.

Homestead then received the second half kickoff and put together a drive that took over 7 minutes off the clock and ended with another Ollman run from 4 yards out to make the score 15-10 after a Sean West extra point. The defense forced a Kettle Moraine punt and the offense started another long drive with an opportunity to change the game for good. With seconds left in the 3rd quarter on 3rd down and 10 from the Kettle Moraine 40 yard line a Sal Balistrieri pass to Aidan Reis appeared to get the first down but the officials spotted the ball two yards short that set up a crucial 4th and 2 decision to start the final quarter.

The Highanders went for it on 4th down and 2. Sal Balistrieri darted through a seam and took the ball 32 yards for the touchdown to make the score 22 to 10 Homestead. The two drives meant that Kettle Moraine would touch the ball only for the second time in the half down two scores in the 4th quarter.

The Homestead defensive backfield was under pressure all night from the Kettle Moraine passing attack. Anthony Chung, Jackson Names, Jack Crowley, Collin McGinley and Myles Kelly made play after play to keep their offense from getting any momentum going. The Homestead offense then took the field again and closed the door for good after a long Tyler Miller run set up another Ollman touchdown from the 2 yard line to make the final score 29-10 and send the Highlanders to Madison to face Waunakee in the State Championship Game this Friday at 1pm.

Come cheer them on the Highlanders in the Championship Game at Camp Randall Stadium.
