This is a special week at LNMS that only rolls around once per year - CLUB Rush. Below you will find details for the week ahead, but I encourage all of our Knights to consider getting involved in one club or organization that they find of interest. Participation in these groups helps to round out a student's total middle school experience and is a great way to make new friends. As you will see, we offer something for everyone!
Please remember that on Monday, September 2 there will be no school due to the Labor Day holiday. Make it a great week and thank you so much for looking over this latest update.

CLUB Rush: August 26-30
LNMS has the tradition of CLUB Rush early in the school year - this is the week! This week is when clubs and organizations display pictures of past activities to promote membership for the new school year. Club sponsors will have show boards that promotes the ideals of either academic achievement, character, or service and leadership. The show boards will be on display in the cafeteria for the students to look at before/after school and during lunch.
We will have 30 clubs and organizations for students to join this year including: Art - Chess - Crocheting - Drama - Latin Festival - Science - French - Robotics - and Nature clubs.

Knight Technology Announcement

We have received several emails related to students experiencing Internet access issues at home, specifically on their OCPS provided device. These have been reported to OCPS' technology department and they believe they have identified the root cause of this issue. This is a district-wide issue and they are working very quickly on an update that should be released this weekend to all student devices.

CLUB Rush: Listing of Clubs, Organizations
& Sports

As mentioned above, CLUB Rush will be held all this week in the cafeteria. Many of the activities will have a showboard on display to give students an idea of the clubs we have for them to join. There will also be a PowerPoint presentation for viewing of the clubs during the lunch periods.

Knights Wrestle with Bullying
|
Marc Maro shared important life tips to include topics such as bullying and making the right choices.
Marc Mero, Former WWE Wrestling Champion and Author of "How to be the Happiest Person on the Planet," reached the pinnacle of sports-entertainment success - then lost it all - but in the process discovered what's most important in life. Everyone faces adversity. "It's not how many times you get knocked down, it's how many times you get back up. You can do anything you set your mind to!"
Marc shares his captivating journey with audiences worldwide and inspires people to examine their life choices. Listeners feel a greater sense of appreciation toward their relationships and the "gift of time" - and are empowered to make a difference in their personal life, school, career, and community.

In Dr. Ali's classroom last week, the students participated in an ice breaker to get to know each other and work at collaboration and coordination during teamwork . . .
Tennis ball transfer is one of the old favorite team building games to use with students. Each participant holds the end of string attached to a smallish steel ring on which a tennis ball sits. The task: the group of students must take the tennis ball off one station and leverage it down to balance it on another station. Lack of collaboration and coordination results in the tennis ball crashing to the floor instead of being lifted. At the end of the game the group rates themselves on how well they worked as a team.

The first game is August 28 here at LNMS vs Innovation Middle School. The team would like your support; bring a comfortable beach chair (in case bleachers are full) and umbrella (block out sun) and encourage our Lady Knights to a win!

Monday's Motivational Moment!
|
A VERY SPECIAL TRAIN RIDE
 A young man, aged 24-years, was looking out from a train's window as it traveled through the countryside. He was seated next to his father.
More than once he shouted, "Dad, look the trees are going behind us!" His father simply smiled while a young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24-year old's childish behavior with pity.
Suddenly he again exclaimed, "Dad look the clouds are now running with us!"
The young couple just couldn't resist any longer and leaned over to the older father and said, "Why don't you take your son to a good doctor who might help him?"
The father smiled and said, "I did and we are coming from the hospital. My son was blind from birth and he just got his eyes this morning thanks to a transplant operation."
The lesson for our Knights?
Be careful not to judge others too quickly as we all have our stories to share. Plus, when you judge people you may be losing out on making a new friend.
